Re: Painted shells*where to put this advise?

*bumping for usefulness
At my local Pet Smart this isn't a problem but a lot of malls/beach venders use this problematic technique. Usually they get tossed which is such a waste as there's tons of great shells that just need cleaned up.

Re: Crab Molting? Need help plsssss

Being new crabs they're probably de-stressing, could need a molt after a long trip and finally standing in nice deep sub to do so. Also, when they dig for any reason they create a cave and tunnels that allows them to breath so by digging down into that cave then covering it back up has collapsed the...

Re: Is 73.3 F an okay temperature?

Hello everyone :) I'm a very new crabber as I made the impulse decision to adopt 3 tiny hermit crabs from PetCo. I've set up a 20 long for them with 6" sand/coco fiber substrate, fresh and salt pools, decor, varied food, etc. My main problem thus far has been getting the heat to stay consistent. My...

Re: Metal halide lights ??

I think it's going to come down to how it was made. Canopies either have to be fully removed in order to get into the tank, although some are made with access gaps or flip up portions. Think about what and how often you need to access it. Can you get the water bowls/pools out to change them easily?...

Re: Metal halide lights ??

I've not heard of a combo unit like that before. If it does come with all three, it just means that the coral were given the ultimate in full spectrum lighting. Halide, florescent, and LEDS all offer slightly different wavelengths. It was a custom made hood/canopy for a 72g bow front coral reef aqu...

Metal halide lights ??

This tank setup I found was used for growing coral and used a 'metal halide/T12/LED' light system. I'm curious if there's any aquarium/crustacean experts out there that could tell me if they'd be safe for hermits? And WHAT they are exactly?
Thanks!

Smallest tank for 6 jumbos

Footprint played a role when I was contemplating the size I wanted to land on and be happy with when I upgrade my 37g. When I compared the size of a tank I found with the surface area of the stand I had I discovered that although the said 55 gallon (calculated closer to 58) had 20+ gallons on my cur...

Can someone tell me what this is?

Ok so I did a Google search on these shells (Haitian tree snail or candy snail shell) and looked at some pictures of the openings. All of the intact shells have a little lip in the same place as the photos you posted, ranging in colors from a light pink to more red, I really think it's part of the ...

Re: What do I do ?

With your UTH being not safe to insulate (I do my generic UTHs [emoji854]) and within an impenetrable barrier (aquarium glass + thick sub + wood stand) it's a dangerous mix you got going on. I highly recommend you stick your UTH on the outside side of the tank above the substrate so as to not dry it...

Re: Can someone tell me what this is?

... It should be a molt sac, but it could also be regrown small appendages or pleopods, or a mix of all three. It really is very unique. It seems a bit of a too round shape to be a 'rear sided' appendage but it certainly could be regrowing a back leg and getting color after the 'gel' colored phase....

Re: Crab left shell and has some weird growth.

When adding the necessary 6" of substrate and creating an ideal molting environment, dont bury him it'll suffocate him. Make sure your substrate is packable to make it 'sand castle consistency'. Sounds like he's struggling too much already and a surface molt is unavoidable. Make sure you keep him sa...
