Molting disaster

Not sure if this goes in molting or emergency but here it goes. Okay so my big guy Octavius went and de-shelled and dug down naked about 8 weeks ago. It scared me so bad. I ended up putting a few land snail shells in there which I was scared he was just going to eat naked but he chose one. He instan...

Re: cannibalism

Color has nothing to do with health. :) It is somewhat related to age - smaller crabs will often be very pale, older crabs not so much - but it really comes down to the individual crab. I have 66-some hermits who all get the same exact diet, and some are nearly black while others are cream. When sh...

Re: Need Advice From Australian Crabbers

thanks for the offer, but I still don't think I'd be able to have it Australia is very strict about shipping in natural substances and I'm not too sure if they'll let it through customs if I'm going to order something from online, I'm going to be ordering it through Australian websites so that I kn...

What are your crabs up to?

I just moved my 10g with 4 crabbies into my room and away from the vast temp changes that is the living room heater. And I have one mystery crab. Flower who is my smallest (micro) switched shells as soon as I got her and even stole Pepper's shell. Pepper changed into Matty's shell from back when he ...

Re: What's he tryna do?

ISOing normal, healthy molts is unnecessary. But any surface molts or moss pits molts really can put the crab at risk of attack. They are not healthy or normal molts. My crabs love hanging in the moss pits too...thankfully I've never had a molt there. Sorry, but cannibalism has just never been a pr...

Re: What are your crabs up to?

Ok I've been out of the game lately, are your pools cycled and all fixed up the way you wanted them? They look awesome and obviously your crabs are happy :) I really thought it'd be one of your violas to use the magnaturals first but way to go Poseidon! She's such a beauty. I'm sure those two won't...

Re: What's he tryna do?

I've read a few cases here of the odd moss pit molt but they are far from normal. If you do happen to notice a crab molting in the moss pit, carefully move the crab -moss pit and all- to ISO (or block off that area from other crabs) just to be safe. Normal, healthy molts occur deep under the substr...

AHHAHA he looks like he has a 3rd eye! [emoji23] What are those mushroom looking things in your before? Did you leave them out in your remodel?? That climbable fabric is neat! Where'd you get it? It looks fun to work with. Do the crabs shred your magnaturals? Your tat looks very natural, like a sho...

Re: cannibalism

I have an over population problem and I feed them cuttlebone, freeze dried meal worms/crickets/grasshoppers and shrimp so whenever that stuff is gone I instantly re-fill it ASAP so I don't have to worry about cannibalism.. as much. I've never had a problem with it tbh even with my tank over populate...

Re: What's he tryna do?

Haha just learned that they do that kind of shinanagins all the time. Molting in moss pits... Quite popular.
