Re: Crab is on the roof of my crabitat upside down!

My big and small crabs do that, manage to get down safe and sound all by themselves. The lid is just another climber to them, everything is lol

Re: I Hope My Nose is Wrong But...

Big Enzo is OK! He came up briefly last night after almost 3 months down and is enormous , based on the few quick glimpses I got of chunky tree trunk legs. Now I only have to worry if the odor is Felix or some very long-forgotten food buried deep. Its definitely got to be food, possible musty EE ??...

Re: What is the best suction cup or second level support?

I've had decent results with these. They need redoing every month or two and work best with some support underneath whatever you're hanging on them, but they've done much better than regular ones. I find cleaning the glass really well first and moistening the cups just a little (glass dry) holds be...

Re: Caught in the act...

I gave up on trying to keep the moss pits and shell shops up. Now I just keep them on the floor of the tank:p Wish I could but keeping ground space and have big enough climbers for my big ones is hard. Tried rearranging the tat and everything ended up in the same place just wetter sub ha. Mommy of ...

Fun fact

Isopods eat the old exo from crabs, much like their own. I noticed a couple days after dumping the crab's old food into the isopod tank that the babies were all over it and it was eaten all gone within a couple days. It was the crab exo from Alaska Hermit. Medium crab molting longer than expected

One of mine was down 80+ days and he's just a big guy, needed more time than others. Another passed after I dug him up, one of my first, still hurts. Give'em time, you'll thank yourself later :) Mommy of 12 PP babies - Baby, Toby, Sid, Matty, Junior, Kaylee, Aries, Adrian, Turbo, Flower, Boo and Fre...

Re: What do you look for in stores for your hermits?

I look for natural hemp rope in every craft isle because I just like crocheting, creating, new ideas for them to climb on. I look for organic sections in any grocery store, seeing how my crabs like different stuff. I look for fluker's grasshoppers at every pet section to compare prices, they're not ...

40 Gallon bowfront! +questions

Yes I know, unfortunately it's not much of a help to me. I live in a really remote area in Canada. There is not really any of the recommended stores close to me and ordering online isn't always possible either. :o I may be taking a trip to Walmart on Sunday to pick up some things- and to get some s...

Re: 40 Gallon bowfront! +questions

Set back :( hardware store is out of sand, and will not be restocking until Monday. :( Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk There's a thread with recommended places to buy hermit stuff and the list is marked for Canada / US and unspecified that you can try. Re: Substance in substrate

Should be fine, mine did that as well but it was easier to tell what it was in straight sand. This is a really great post by JMT about rust and metal in the crabitat: http://hermitcrabassociation.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=79277&p=732071 There's no like button so *thumbs up* must read Mommy of ...

Re: Hermit crab tries to eat my other smaller hermit crab?

This can be any number of things from pure personality of the crab to not enough proteins in his diet to he wants the other's shell etc... Try filling out the help/care thingy under emergencies I believe and it'll help narrow down the cause. Mommy of 12 PP babies - Baby, Toby, Sid, Matty, Junior, Ka...

Re: What are your crabs up to?

I took everyone out in one swoop with everyone jammed in the moss pit (convenient wow) and kept them in my empty 20g long to re-do their tank. Here's everyone after they slid back into the 37g. I set them in a wine stacker (old moss pit) biggest first and slid them in one by one so I didn't get pinc...
