Re: LiveHermitCrabs.com

Please do let us know. I ordered in September and finally got the money back from American Express a couple months ago. I can't believe the credit card companies even still let them accept cards with as many people getting defrauded. Yes the crabs are SO tempting but if you don't get them, like me, ...

Re: Sad crab - even sadder crabber

Took about eight months before my crabs would not hide or run every single time they caught sight of me. Takes TIME, lots of it.

Re: Flaxseed question!

Yes and the more oil in the seed the faster it goes rancid so flax is probably better kept in the frig.

Re: Fresh new Molt

Is that the exo or the pale new crab? I am dying to have one molt by the glass like that, so I can cover it and make a peeking window. It would be fascinating to observe the entire process.

That's funny! Now I can picture him reciting Shakespeare from his "balcony" post.

Cutest. Pic. Ever.

My male strawberry popped out of the hide to try to get the attention of the girl (lower left) who remained entirely unimpressed. Now he just needs to do this:

Re: The New Tank + Some Crab Pictures! :)

My straws are just like yours; one went right into a beautiful shell, the other stays in a too-small, chipped and beat up shell (and, he recently molted for 10 weeks so I thought he would change, but no). He has the most gorgeous choices but prefers to slum it!

Re: Lowering Tempterature but keeping Humidity

I have the same problem in Socal; it is already in the 90's outside and we turn the AC up (warmer) in the day when we are away usually to 80 degrees. So, it would get too hot in the tat with the UTH on, edging to the 90's. I finally bit the bullet and bought a Zilla thermostat ($35 I think). That wa...

Do they voluntarily go in the pools and walk around under there? Have been wondering if that is something I should offer.

Re: Still Safe to Use?

You will get a rancid smell from anything with oil in it (like seeds) if they are bad. (smells like cooking oil gone bad)

Re: Is burlap and popsicle sticks safe?

I'm thinking you could first (or after you build it) soak the burlap ribbon in salt water. Everything that comes from overseas in a container gets "nuked" with insecticides before it comes onshore, so better safe than sorry. ( I know this because I am a bird toy buyer and this is the case with them ...

Re: Exo Terra

Get the big one! Cost not that much more and lots more space; the 36 x18" is 40 gals. I think. A lot of people are critical of exo's because the doors in front don't allow you as deep of sub but I have mine up to the doors which is 7" and then I put a plexi divider in the middle of the tank to allow...

Re: My New 50 gallon Setup

Yes the eternal problem. I keep a microfiber cloth by the tank and wipe it twice a day. Once a week I use diluted vinegar to make sure no lime scale builds up. Most of the time you can get this controlled eventually; but then if the humidity or temp in your house changes (open a window, etc ), here ...

Re: Crabby party!

My male strawberry considers anything, including other crabs, as a way to boost himself to the top of the cage. So he more or less mows over them. I am waiting for one of them to reach up and pinch him on the belly! As they should.
