which moss is safe
Leaves are another thing.Oak is OK, except for the red oak with pointy leaves. It is bad for arthropods.Maple leaves are great; If they are dried, they make lots of noise. I haven't checked out every type of maple for crab safety though, and I should. I can't get them in Arizona though. They are har...

which moss is safe
In the past, I had a hard time finding anyone on thie internet who had any success with plants in a crabitat. I grew a chia seed now and then by mistake if it fell out of the feeding tray. It never lasted though.I just found this site though, she has some suggestions for plants. http://hermitcrabcot...

@LAURIEResearch before getting a crab. That would be the best thing ever to do, of course. But may I ask all you guys:How many of you researched before getting a crab?I didn't. My girlfriend needed me to take care of it for awhile and the crab liked me better than her. There was no time to study and...
I just don't get it.
CrabberDid you look into 211.org ?The might have programs to assist with financial difficulties. (i.e.) utility subsidies, food stamps, help with housing, etc.

I would help if you're willing to let me.However, I have a fever at the moment. Can't think about it until I'm better. When I first registered here, this was the most vibrant forum I've ever seen. I used to post hours worth of research to answer questions. All those personalities. Then it dropped off...

Egg shells are good. Tell us if he notices it. Don't be surprised if he doesn't notice it, just leave it in there.Come to think of it, you may be right about him being lonely. Sometimes isolated crabs seem to gather objects together as if it comforts them. I think when they are with other crabs, the...

Looking for opinions on Repti-Fogger by Zoo-Med.
Last night I left the Vicks fogger on overnight by itself without the Honeywell swamp cooler.I turned the swamp cooler off because it is noisy and I wanted to watch movies in peace. In the morning, the humidity was better than ever. I think the swamp cooler might have been blowing alot of humidity p...

Treating tap water vs filtering
Thanks jenok, I will look into that. One note about water quality. I just got a 2014 water report on quality of water on tap where I live. I think the Environmental Protection Agency has certain standards they require. This report shows what the actual levels of each contaminant are in local water. E...

Treating tap water vs filtering
Now I see the super walmart has a self serve water filling thing that charges 25 cents a gallon. At that price, it's barely worth filtering it myself using free water, since the filters must be replaced eventually. But I don't know if they actually service these water machines. No doubt it is monito...

questions involving water, humidity, and air circulation
paperheartzIf I was a crab, I might drown in those. Too deep and slippery. I think it's easier not to submerge things in water because the trays need to be wiped out every couple of days.My crab gets irritable when I mist the tank by hand, no matter how indirectly. As to whether a bubbler works, jus...

paperheartzPlease, it would be much easier to answer one question at a time. Don't worry about multiple threads so much as long as they are good.I don't see a digital hygrometer in the pictures. That is most important. Need to know temperature and humidity accurately.A few pieces of wood would be ni...

http://www.myaquariumclub.com/...-24-h...-299104.htmlThis aquarium club forum advises that letting water sit for 24 hours will not remove critical contaminants such as chloramine and heavy metals. They say Chlorine tends to evaporate in pipes so it is not always used in municipal systems. Also, it s...

Hi.Distilled water is not safe for drinking to my understanding (google this). I use bottled water which is generally filtered for me and the crab.As for the heater, this sort of thing is a problem solving process. I did try one of those heating pads they sell at Petco and it was just slightly warm....
