Re: Crabs seem to dislike beach sand/ seawater.

Some people may have good luck using sand straight from a beach but in my opinion and this is just my opinion..you are risking your crabs health. The sand is tainted with the same stuff the water was..unless you are washing it and baking it.maybe this is why they don't like it??.I think you are posi...

Re: Is this normal?

During the day they are pretty much docile..just hanging out..some will hide. Mine don't hide. Mine will hang out anywhere. During the night they become active.ideas.. I don't know what you tank looks like but.. You might add more things to climb. Like a big rock, or a pile of rocks , boil them firs...

Re: Molting vs. Digging

Very common to hear a lot of digging and scratching.. they also like to do test runs and ha ha I fooled you! They go down will be gone for a week or so then come up for awhile then go back down do the same thing. Might do this 2-3 Times then BOOM... you don't hear from them again in a long time.

Re: Green algae in substrate near molting crab

Can you gently scoop off the top layer of your substrate and if you have fresh wood in your tank that is around it..remove it & sterilize the wood. Any other decorative items I would take out very carefully in case your crab is under a water / food bowl and wash and rinse then dry. If your crab s mo...

Re: Cleaning question

In all my years of crabbing..I never added old to new. I cleaned the whole tank out. I just swiped it out with paper towels and water then added new substrate. Super cleaning one a year.the only time I added new to old is when I flooded my tank I added a few bricks of e.e. to sand.

Re: fruit flies

You might want to figure out where they are coming from and correct that and you will find your flies will disappear over time. When I had them I found on different times I had brought in a plant that had been out side, one other time my father law had given us so much veggies from his garden they w...

Re: Tank is now flooding..

I make sure my dishes are heavy so they can't tip them. I got in this flood stage cause one end of my tank is higher than the other so the higher end dries out faster..so I would end up over wetting it and then where did that water go?? Yep, down to lower end! I tried to take a lot of the soupy wet ...

Re: I really hate Petland.

The nearest pet land to me is Quincy, Il. They have stepped up. A little better conditions..I think there is only one pet shop now in macomb, Illinois that sells crabs now and she was trying to pass them as large..they were like nickel size. They had gravel, sponge, no water.. I just made loud rude ...

Re: NEW CRABS

You might want to think about a bigger tank in the future..If your crabs all go down to molt that's not much room to bury down travel around and find a good spot without running into another crab. A bigger tank also gives you more room for climbing, second levels and they do grow. Where did you get ...
