1.) the sandcastle consistency is more controlled by how much moisture there is. I like to get my ee expanded first, and start adding stuff to that. Then afterwards I'll add more liquid if necessary. This helps not oversaturate the sub when you are first starting. I personally don't add anything ext...
Nothing really sticks out to me at this moment on why this happened.I agree with all Gb said, I just want to add that try to get them reshelled asap anytime a crab streaks because going without a shell itself can cause damage to their abdomen. I'll be honest the crab is likely dead, because they ten...
I have some that size but mine will never make the jump. They always want to stay in the 1 1/4s to 1 1/2. Not sure why, but they just do. The largest shells sit empty. lol

That's not normal!! There is no such thing as a partial molt with crustaceans, the entire skin comes off as one complete piece all at once. If their exo starts flaking off in chunks they do not survive. What exactly did you see? Can you get a picture? He's fine. He didn't shed his 2 legs left but h...
Hello and welcome to the HCA! How often do you get the allowance? If you just have one, they will likely be okay a week or so until you can get some. But with more than one there can be shell envy when adequate shells are not supplied. Craft stores such as Joannes, offer green turbos in a bag for a ...

They oftentimes are sleeping when they are just sitting there. It's different than our type of sleep. I almost think its like they are in a trance. lol I just assume when mine sit still for hours on end they are sleeping. They don't have to curl up in their shell to sleep. As long as he isn't fighti...

I'm not positive without better pics, but the first one looks like it could be an E with it's more tan color, and from the pic it looks like it has the oval shaped eyes!
I suggest going digital- though more expensive they do seem to fare better and be more accurate. There is no such thing as too high of humidity for them though. Just the higher it gets, the more potential there is for mold- totally harmless for the crabs but annoying for humans.
I'm in a 55 now, and I have 9 at the moment due to various adoptions that popped up. I'm to the point that I do not seek out adoptions, but if there is a crab in need in my area I take it in because crabbing is just not a common hobby here at all. They all end up with kids and tend to not fare well....
I'll be honest I do not have experience with heat tape. I always just used reptile basics heat mats that fit across the back of the tank. They have one that fits across perfectly. But there may be somebody else who can chime in that does have experience with it! From my understanding the uth's are b...
I wouldn't worry about it being too hot unless it's above 90 or so. It often stays in the 80s in their natural habitat. Maybe he's getting ready to dig down? Sometimes they can get lethargic like before.
