Re: not moving
Crabs are weird. Sometimes they get favorites spots. Sometimes they do it for warmth. Think of a cat on a dryer lol. (If it's where the heater is )Or he might just like it there. I wouldn't worry too much. If Sebastion is a new crab- I haven't gathered if you already had him or not -he could be just...

Re: What strength of UVB light to use?
Not to hijack the post at all, but when you have time would you mind sharing at some point how you have your UV set up? I'm always so unsure about how to go about rigging it.

Re: What strength of UVB light to use?
UVb lighting is actually pretty debated. While some swear that the crabs seem to be more active, other's say it has little to no affect. What I do know is that it is very hard to implement with the humidity of our tanks, as plastic, glass, and mesh filters pretty much all of it out. Crabbers have te...

That makes sense, and it's too funny! Mine hate the vacuuum. I can literally walk too close to it, and they think I'm going to use it and they bolt! I'm also glad Mao is taking it better now. Sharing "mom" can be hard lol.

Re: Collecting Leaves?
If they aren't full of pesticides, she could potentially send you green leaves, then you could try dehydrating them. I don't think it matters whether they are green or not for use with crabs or isopods. Just an idea.

Re: You know your moved in when your tat is set up
Looks great! Is it bad that part of the reason I haven't moved from where I live is I DREAD moving the crabs so so so much! I hate having to move or bother molters, It's all heavy, I'm scared the tank will break..BAH. It give me anxiety just thinking about it. But the tank looks great, you have a lo...

Good choice! I've ordered from them off and on over the years. My crabs have always enjoyed their stuff.

Re: Food questions
I change it every night to two nights depending on what it is. Fresh foods tend to get changed sooner. Hermits are scavengers.so they tend to like things a bit "yuckier" than we would think, so there is no real set time, I just prefer to not attract bugs so I pull fresh foods sooner than later. Leaf...
Re: Isopods
I don't know why I didn't consider that, but that actually does make a lot of sense.wodesorel wrote:Iridovirus may jump species and both isopods and hermits are crustaceans, so caution is never a bad idea. The infected isopods will be bright iridescent blue.
Re: New decor
I love it! I'm always looking at things and trying to find ways to re-purpose them for the crabs.Hermiesguardian wrote:Thanks. That sign is actually a toothbrush holder. LolRawrgeous wrote:Cute sign-very summery! I have similar leaves in my tank right now. I really like the purple flowers too!
Re: Isopods
I want to also put in tiny janitors, but what about the disease that the isopods can spread to crabs? Is this true? If it is true, how common is it for a crab to get sick or die from isopods? ғɪᴠᴇ ᴘᴘs: ᴋᴏᴀ, ᴍᴏᴊᴀ, sɪᴀᴍ, ᴏᴢᴀʀᴋ, ᴀɴᴅ ᴄʜᴇʟʟᴀ I'm pretty sure its a disease isopods can give other isopods, ...
Re: Isopods
http://hermitcrabassociation.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=92538 This is a guide that is pretty helpful. :) Isopods and springtails are different. Many isopod keepers keep springtails in with their isopods though. It is not uncommon for springtails to be kept in vivariums though as a clean-up crew....
