Re: 2 new PP's!

Don't you feel great finding hermit crabs on craigslist? Adopting these guys is usually giving them a huge boost in living conditions and a second chance at a long life. I must say, though, the two you found look quite healthy -- no painted shells or missing limbs. The previous owners who I got the...

It's really up to you....I personally went with the 20 gal long when I first started and created a few lower second levels.

Re: Is my crabitat good

Even though chances are that the hermit crabs will not move into the shells, you really don't want to put the painted shells in there. The paint can chip and the hermit crabs, being scavengers, will eat it, and this is very, very bad for the hermit crab.

Re: Is my crabitat good

I saw a few painted shells on the left in there... Couldn't tell if there was a crab in there or not,
but you never want to use painted shells, only natural. :)

Re: My current setup

Depending on the number of crabs you have, you might want to leave that hut, that way each crab has its own little hide to go. Sometimes they'll love each other and other times they want to become true hermits.

Re: Crab On the Run!

I usually sleep with only one pillow, and of course little bubba just had to drool all over it. My dog was the pillow that night. The doggy is surprisingly soft [emoji15]

Re: naked hermit crab found in water bowl

Don't throw him out or presume he's dead until you get the fish smell. Trust me, you'll know if he's dead. He very well could be surface molting, and if this is the case, you will need to Iso him in a different tank.

Clear???? Don't expect more clear ones, it's a miracle I got my phone to focus at all. My phone usually will focus on the background rather than the actual picture [emoji55]

Re: naked hermit crab found in water bowl

The most important thing to do is get him in a shell. The easiest thing to do is to put him in a Tupperware container with no substrate and put all different kinds of shells in there. If he doesn't switch in 20 mins, you'll have to reshell him yourself.

Re: Crab On the Run!

I had a small straw escape once. It was actually New Years Eve, and once I was ready for bed at about 2:00 A.M  I walked into my room, and there Bubba was, sitting on my pillow. Funny thing was, the pillow was red too. It's almost like he was saying, " It was fun out of the tank for a little w...
