Re: Choice Of Care

They also told me the live sand was not good for hermit crabs and I believed them.

Re: Choice Of Care

I agree. They were very worried I was going to end up hurting or outright kill both of my crabs. I actually went online to Petco's website and talked to someone via live chat and they told me it wasn't good for hermit crabs and they shared a link to a hermit crab care site. I believed them and opted...

Re: Choice Of Care

The second group I left after I got into an argument with someone over "live sand" that I had purchased from PetSmart. I wanted to use it as a sub for my crabs and they were telling me it wasn't safe because of the millions of live bacteria added. They gave me the "Play sand is the best and safest o...

Re: Choice Of Care

Soilentgrenga, I didn't want to tell anyone the name of the group in case there are members of that group who are members here and they might read it so I want to be careful about what I say.

Re: Choice Of Care

It was in a Facebook group that I've since been removed from. I posted a picture of my tank there last year just to show that I had crabs too and they started attacking me for having my crabs in a 20 Gallon tank, that I was using some of the Hermit Crab Patch's pre-mixed sub mixed in with play sand ...

Choice Of Care

I just read the HCA rules on inappropriate behavior. If I chose to use all Eco Earth as my primary substrate and I didn't want to use sand, another member cannot imply or state that I care less about my crabs due to my personal choice on how I want to care for them. My substrate is the playsand/ee m...

Reptile Calcium Powder

I just want to clarify but the crabbing community feels that reptile calcium powder like Repashy is dangerous, correct? Due to the chemicals added? I don't have any intention of using reptile powder for calcium but I just wanted to get an opinion. I'm getting the impression that there are SOME thing...

1 1/2 Shell Opening

What is the next size up from a 1 1/2" shell opening? I want to know for when I need to go shell shopping.

Re: Pet Sand

Well, I thought my one crab above ground was molting but he was just digging, because he dug back up and I found him under his favorite log hide and it's not a wood hide. It's ceramic.

Re: Avocados

I've tried feeding avocados, but my crabs didn't like it. They liked the orange bell pepper better. In fact, I've fed conventional produce before and I have not had a crab die due to pesticides.

Tank size question

I was a member of another hermit crab group on Facebook until I got removed, but one question that has always bothered me is, why would they tell me my 20 Gallon tank is not an appropriate long term home for my crabs and that I needed to get a 29 Gallon? My mom and I have already agreed that we woul...

Avocados

There is one group that I was a member of that believed that Avocados were poisonous and put it on their unsafe list. I want to know, why would one group say that Avocados are unsafe while this group and others have it on their safe list? I am not naming the group that believes avocados are toxic to...

Re: ReptiSoil

Thank you for clarifying. I wasn't planning to buy it as my crabs prefer to dig into their sand/ee mix but I wanted to see what your opinions were and if anyone had experience with it. By the way, the carbon added to it is to aerate the soil and the label does say it can be used for live plants but ...
