Re: Upgrading from tote to tank

Sweet Erin! You will need a piece of plexiglass for the front so that the substrate can be higher than the doors and not fall out when you open them. Edit: bummer on the moss ball! Mine are real. I got them at the fish store. Maybe a weight is inside yours? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk The Pl...

It was due to arrive today but it looks like it will be late and arrive tomorrow. It has a sliding door and a nice vent though. Hopefully the slow delivery means it will get here in one p...

Re: Upgrading from tote to tank

Upgrading from tote to tank

I currently have my hermit crabs in a 32 gallon tote that sits on my bedroom floor. I have struggled with my hermit crabs surviving through molting and my own forgetfulness. My hermit crabs deserve a little respect. So, I am going to be building a huge oasis for them! I bought a tank from Amazon a f...

Re: Building a Crabby Paradise

I live in Virginia, I try to give them the best home I can and I can honestly say, that it is a much better life than the pet store I got them from, however, I think that they could be much happier! I just bought a 4 foot long tank that is due to arrive on the 17th. After 2 molting casualties and an...

Re: Depressed, Naked and possibly dead/molting?

Hey - wowzers, it sounds like you have some big crabs! That's pretty flipping cool! So I'm looking at your template answers and the sub is the first thing hitting me as problematic. Calcium carbonate sand - the pet store stuff they sell for lizards, and also marketed for crabs, is bad news bears fo...

Re: Depressed, Naked and possibly dead/molting?

1. What kind of substrate is used in your tank and how deep is it? A 45-55 mix of calcium carbonate sand, and eco-earth coconut fiber bedding (respectively) My substrate levels vary, the deepest spot is 6 inches, although most of the area is 5-5 1/2. The shallowest spot of substrate is 3 inches 2. D...

Re: Building a Crabby Paradise

[quote="Visual"]There is approximately 15" of sub in a tank that's 11" deep x 35" wide x 59" tall The pics are ok but I think I can do better the daylight. There would be less glare on the plexi. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170509/567043355212ed4175b98af76792705a.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-...

Depressed, Naked and possibly dead/molting?

All of my hermit crabs have disappeared in their habitat and have been out of sight for about a week or two. I believe that everyone is molting, all except for one and he has been alone since. I have seen him moping about the habitat, unreactive to my movements (they typically hide from me when they...
