You’re such a trooper! I couldn’t imagine being sick and raising zoea. I’m praying for your safety during the Hurricane. Hopefully everything turns out fine!

Re: Diurnal vs nocturnal species

Not all crabs are nocturnal, in fact a good amount are actually crepuscular.

I’d say if he does dig then wait, he’s the only crab in the 3 gallon so he should be fine.

Re: Found hermit in hotel laundry r]oom

Wow! I can’t believe someone would just leave him like that. If I were in your situation I would isolate him until you can get the 29 gallon set up, keep on top of the healing foods and bring his temperature and humidity up to standard. Then when the 29 is setup you can put him in there, and add in ...

Re: CrabStreet Journal info inaccurate?

When you do the chopstick test you pull it back out and if the hole doesn’t keep it’s shape it’s too dry, if it fills with water it’s too wet. If it just holds the shape it’s perfect. :)

Aaaand it wasn’t any of the new shells I bought for her. I think a purple pincher was in this one at some point. Oh well, I’m glad she’s ha...

Re: New crab owner substrate question: adding salt instead of saltwater?

I wouldn’t, someone did this a few years ago and it actually burned the crabbies because you can’t really make sure you get the proper dilution of substrate + water to salt. I would say you can maybe leave the lid off for a few days (if you can wait) so it dries back up and you can mist with saltwat...

Re: Shells in bowl vs scattered

It’s your choice really! I keep mine in a bin for the most part to keep them from being buried in the sand. I do have some on the substrate though.

Re: Tap Water vs. Distilled vs. Spring

They both produce purified water, but utilize different routes to get there! Here’s a more in-depth description if you’re curious:

Re: Can a rescued cannibal crab be "rehabilitated"?

Based on observation I’d say about 80% of the time hermit crabs will attack other crabs when something is off care-wise. I’d guess that when he was being shipped he wasn’t offered many (if any) food options. Once he molts I’m sure things will be fine. :) EDIT: Fruits contain sugars, which can give h...
