Re: Halloween Crab care and trust issues

If they require a larger tank than you have (as mentioned by wodesorel above) then you wouldn't want to add another crab until you have more space for them. Crowding even the chillest of animals can lead to agression. Is the species Grecarcinus quadratus? (I you're unsure just google the name & comp...

Re: natural spring water

Dechlorinator used with tap water is cheaper in the long run. And I can't really think of any benefit to using bottled water.

Mine just finished moulting in a corner window - I had a view through two sides & the bottom! It was pretty amazeballs. :D

Would depend on how close you mean to place it, I would think? Certainly don't have it touching.

Re: Crab Without Shell Through Glass View!

Older crabs (of all sorts) are more likely to die during molts because molting takes up more energy in larger animals & so they will often eventually reach a size where they just don't have the reserves necessary to pull it off any more. That may have been what the post you read was getting at??

Re: Double-dish bubbler pics, yo!

You put the lid on top of the bowl with water and stones? What is the bottom bowl with rocks for? is this the fresh water pool?? That's just how I have my pools set up... I used stones glued together (with aquarium safe silicon) as a ramp out of the pool. The loose stones in the bottom of the other...

Re: How long do you leave your pad heater on or when?

I'd tend to say leave it on. Monitor the temp as closely as is practical for a few days to see where the pad brings it up to & then maybe consider getting a thermostat to shut it off if it gets too high (most likely not an issue unless your house is regularly in the 80's though, tbh... I only need a...

Re: New owner questions

Two crabs will be okay in a ten gal for a while, but I'm sure any crab would tell you bigger is better, lol. You don't really want a tank in direct sunlight because the sun on the glass might heat the tank well above the temp you want it to be. But as mentioned above, sticking them in a closet will ...

Re: Safe to Use?

Do you think using mesh paper, from a grocery store would be safe to use as a burrowing material in a moss container? It's brown, and it looks like a bee hive. I would probably shred it up, and put it in a little container to hide in. I think I know what you're talking about... and I imagine that s...

Re: More Humidity Problems

I think the noise from the bubblers initially puts them off, but they adjust. Now mine will sit dipping their legs in the bubbles, so I assume they're at least okay with it.

If the incandescent worked well, maybe return to that if you can? Different things will work for different tanks.
