Re: Glass-top, Front-Opening Terrarium?

I'll try elevating it like that as soon as everything is set up! If there glass starts getting too hot, should i go 6x27 or smaller for my tank?

Re: Glass-top, Front-Opening Terrarium?

Is there a guide here on UTHs so i can get a good kind? Also, since where they are now is the basement that gets no light at night, should i have a weak moon bulb on at night?

Re: Glass-top, Front-Opening Terrarium?

Based off this, considering an average household temperature of 68-70, would it be wiser to make a stand to keep the hood off the glass, or buy UTHs that will work around the joint and pop a cfl or led or 2 in the fixtures? If it would lead to more stable temperatures, the third light is designed to...

Re: Glass-top, Front-Opening Terrarium?

Oops, i should've asked if it was ok to put the hood on glass  doing that will have the light itself just over an inch off the glass. The day bulb is about 6 inches from the moon bulb, and the incandescent bulb is 10 inches the opposite way from the moon bulb. The moon bulb is always on, and t...

Re: Glass-top, Front-Opening Terrarium?

A potential flaw i just realized: will putting the heat hood on top of the tank void its heating ability?

Re: Glass-top, Front-Opening Terrarium?

If i put some foam on the cut edge, then sew fabric over that, would that protect the crabbies enough?

Edit: i should clarify: stick foam on the edge, then wrap it in fabric and sew through the mesh so the foam can't come off

Re: Glass-top, Front-Opening Terrarium?

If i would have fun with some clippers and the current mesh lid once the tanks are together, would it pose any risk to the crabs? Now that you mention that, it would be a wonderful way to keep shells from gathering substrate every week

Re: What are your crabs up to?

I haven't caught mine actively on the wheel, but it's turned more than what would be fitting just to cross it. In other news, one of my guys, Broheim, was digging and came all the way to the front of the tank that i could see him! I covered the glass for privacy, but if he wants to molt there, i may...

Re: Glass-top, Front-Opening Terrarium?

Will the surface crabs be fine with little to no climbing space till the molt is done? I was gonna add about 6 inches of sub now, then the last 3 when the last one comes up and use that sub

Re: Glass-top, Front-Opening Terrarium?

So originally i was thinking i would need to get the bottom of the terrarium out in one piece to make a glass lid, but i just realized that because it's front-opening, i can just flip it and save an hour of work meticulously scraping off glue! One potential issue i may run into is there's the possib...

Re: Glass-top, Front-Opening Terrarium?

I called PetSmart, and they had a 20 long for under 30 dollars, so i snatched that up quickly. This weekend I'll make it the bottom of a set

Re: Best Way to Acquire Exotics?

I am confused, y'all said that blueberry crabs are endangered and not avail in the U.S. but, Live hermit crabs.com has them for pre-order for the summer for $24.95. Is this legal? :? AVOID THAT SITE LIKE THE PLAGUE! I placed an order there over a month ago, and have yet to hear anything after 2 ema...

Re: Glass-top, Front-Opening Terrarium?

Thank you for the suggestions. Would less than 6" of open air be enough for them? Right now they have about 8 and that seems like just barely enough to climb around. Also part of why I was thinking along the lines of upgrading was because I have a hamster wheel for them that I think one has figured ...

Glass-top, Front-Opening Terrarium?

Does anyone know where I can get the aforementioned affordably? I adopted some crabs from someone who didn't want theirs, and they came in a front-opening tank that has a small side screen and a screen on top. The tank is about 30"x12"x12", but only gives around 3" for substrate. Would it be cheaper...

Pushing Ridged Shells With Dremel?

With most turbos, it seems the shells are ridged rather than somewhat smooth, like a magpie shell. Is there any way using a Dremel to polish in between the ridges, or only the tops of the ridges?
