Re: Saltwater Pool Upgrade! Crabmas in July

We noticed our first diver this morning! Mephistopheles has been hanging out pool side on the upper platform at the very top a lot. I saw him go down the first ramp partially a few times but never fully submerged. Last weekend I modified the ramps with plants zip tied to them for more gripping area....

Re: How often do you buy new shells?

Omg these things are growing like weeds! I just bought a bunch of new shells but I feel like they could even use a few more now! Very gratifying to see but also ever so slightly worrying since all 5 of my 'kids' are already on the large size! They're gonna need their own room pretty soon! Sent from...

Re: Moss pitt

How easy it it for them to access the moss pit? I know crabs can be a bit on the slow side to find new things in the tank. You can also try the moss dried and damp too. Some crabs prefer it one way to the other. When we added the sphagnum moss our first batch was too wet and they avoided it. After i...

Re: How much calcium is recommended?

We keep a calcium pit/ dish, in our tanks at all times. Depending on it's location in the tank it may last a week until it needs to be changed. We rotate through 3-4 of these options every few days. egg shells, several crab exo mixes, crushed cattle bone, several powdered fish bone mixes, different ...

Re: I guess its offical... an upgrade?

It looks like your background is holding up very well. One of those is still on my attempt to do list along with 50 other things! I still love the way this crabitat looks. Much more appealing to the eye than a tank with a piece of netting stuck to the back! I'm sure your crabs are loving it!

Re: Updated Pictures Of My Three Crabitats ~ Picture Heavy

I'm glad I found this post again. Your toppers are awesome! We have been playing around with the idea to add a topper to our 75. Been looking at the Medium/ X tall 24 X 18 X 36 Exo Terra's. I really like the Exo Terra terrariums since they have hinged doors for super easy access. I think Just a few ...

Re: Is 50 dollars a good price for a 29 gallon fish tank?

$50 isn't a bad price for both. If Petco is having the $1 a gallon you are looking at $30 with tax. Their cheap stands are around $35-40. Add another $20 for a glass lid. You are up to around $80 new. I would show up to look at it and offer $35-40. If they won't budge you can go up to full price. Us...

Re: Upgraded to a 29 gallon today!

That's a ZooMeds dual gauge. We tried several of that particular type but the hygrometer side would always stop working and constantly read 99% for us.

We have had much better luck using AC from Lowe's. They are much bigger in size but both cost around the same, around $15.

Re: CrAbByLaNd The first theme park for crabs!

We follow the care sheets here at the HCA and at Crab Street Journal. If we don't see something listed on one page we check the other. If we don't see something posted on either as safe or unsafe we don't use it. Both sites food lists vary slightly as well as the general care parameters depending on...

Would you be able to ship the crabs? We live in North Carolina and would love to take them in!
You can't ship any animals overseas due to strict regulations. Being caught could potentially mean jail time, fines, and the animals being destroyed.

Re: Upgraded to a 29 gallon today!

You and the crabs will be happy with the 29. We recently set up two 29 gallons too. I think the 29 is the almost ideal size. It's a great balance for having ground space, deep substrate and room for climbing!

Re: New to crabbing-got a set-up and crabs from someone getting rid of them

Thanks for clarifying Motor, I was hoping that Wegotazoo would post what brand, then we can help with whether it can be insulated or not. If that's an E, don't they need deeper sub than PP's? I only have PP's, but seem to recall reading that E's need like 11 or 12 inches? No problem. Yes, it is rec...

Re: New to crabbing-got a set-up and crabs from someone getting rid of them

You can add some insulation to help with the temp. Depending on the brand of the UTH as to whether you can insulate over top or if you need to insulate around it. I have multiple heaters, one on each side and two on the back - because the temp in the room varies so greatly depending on the seasons,...

Re: New to crabbing-got a set-up and crabs from someone getting rid of them

It's hard to say what type of mulch or wood chips are in there. Some types like oak and birch are safe and some love snacking on them. There are also unsafe woods too, cedar and pine. Digging for crabs is usually not recommend unless you have a tank emergency like a flood or bacterial bloom since bo...

Re: CrAbByLaNd The first theme park for crabs!

I would definitely be interested in ordering a Acurite holder and 2 of the popcorn boxes if you do decide to do orders. I’m trying to make an Acurite holder now for my new tank and I’ve messed up so much mesh...lol. Xeno and I are really talking about giving this a go with trying to sell our crabby...
