What to do with a 2.5" opening land snail shell?

As I was walking my dog near the canal by my house, I somehow managed to find this massive land snail shell! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171026/f0f6fd98263d6bb52b5e00e9c9c8c655.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171026/422e0453b38b6a122b8a7d4dcbe37527.jpg I know they aren't exactly a pref...

Re: Trying to get disturbed crab back into molting

Another update: Cherry has passed away. Something told me to check the tank before bed. She didn't molt. It looks like she switched shells (or was in the process of trying to) and immediately passed after that..I could tell because her abdomen was starting to dehydrate and was completely limp and co...

Re: Trying to get disturbed crab back into molting

Update: This morning I checked on her and to be honest, I'm not too sure of what exactly is going on. Before I put the towel over the tank, I made sure to clean out her old shell (the one she evacuated out of) and I placed it next to her. By the looks of it, she's switched into the old shell overnig...

Trying to get disturbed crab back into molting

About five days ago, my small crab Cherry resurfaced after being under the sub for over a month. Since she burrowed, she's been in her 15 gal ISO alone, and I assumed she was molting so I left her be. Well, the desk the ISO tank was sitting on happened to be moved by a family member (I found out aft...

Re: How to keep crabs warm w/o electricity??

Thank you everyone for the replies!

Yes, I am in FL. I know that my crabs will be fine with cooler temps and won't die, but I just want to make sure they're as comfortable as possible. I'll look into wrapping the tank with blankets and using a warm/hot water bottle if the temp dips below 70.

How to keep crabs warm w/o electricity??

Hello everyone- having quite a crisis with being able to provide heat to my main tank (29 gal) and an ISO tank (15 gal) due to a loss of electricity from Hurricane Irma. My house has absolutely no power and is currently running on a generator but we're running out of fuel and there's absolutely no g...

Re: Crabs seem depressed??

If I'm misreading this please let me know, but if you have a proper amount of substrate you don't need to ISO your molters, it's an old practice that isn't used any more. Well, the sub in the current tank is 5.5'' and I've already had one fatality when my last crab tried to molt, so I'm a bit nervo...

Re: Crabs seem depressed??

Thanks for the reply! I actually put a heat lamp on the side of the tank just now. I use the lamp to maintain my empty 29gal, but I'll see if bumping up the temp a few degrees helps. As for the chirping, that's an every night thing! It's pretty loud and frequent. I used to worry that it was a cry fo...

Re: Crabs seem depressed??

No, I don't think they've molted before in the time I've had them. My humidity/temp gauge is calibrated, too. I think the light tends to dry out the substrate, but I make sure to mist and wet as needed to keep the humidity where it needs to be..I'm wondering if they're just trying to destress, but I...

Re: Crabs seem depressed??

They are PPs for sure! Both crabs are a mix of orange and purple, and both of their big claws have that distinctive purple tint.

Crabs seem depressed??

Hello everyone! After lurking on this website since I started crabbing, I finally decided to make an account. So here’s the situation- sorry if it's a bit lengthy! I own two PPs, Mona and Cherry. They are about small to medium sized, and they are currently living in a temporary 20gal tank. (I’...
