Re: Molting for 6 months+ ?

If the crab died under the sand, it is very likely that you will not smell it. The substrate usually masks death smell- that was the case for me. Personally, I would give it more time. It is safer to wait it out no matter what. When this happened to me, I was worried at the 6 month mark too. I waite...

Re: Chia seeds

i found my first sprouts of chia last night! Small little things, but they were there! unfortunately i had them in a little shell of worm castings, and there was a little web of mold starting, so i had to throw it out. But i sprinkled some across the tank so hopefully those sprout! mine ar...

Re: climbing structure

Well, my net is by no means perfect! It was meant to be rectangular in shape..but the top part is long, and then as the net drapes down the size gets smaller/narrower. So it's more of a quadrilateral. I basically learned from YouTube- it took a lot of trial and error and lots of patience! I cut a p...

Re: Re-setting up my 40b

Totally loving the background and the new setup! What kind of branch are you using in there? Also, I've never seen any hermits in a candy snail shell before- what a sight! They look so small. Have you figured out the species?

Re: climbing structure

I've actually always struggled with that kind of coconut climbing wall. I could never get it to stick to the wall or hang it up where it was sturdy! I ended up using it for lining my shower caddies, and for emergency hides if necessary. For my net, I actually made my own out of jute cord and hung it...

Re: Chia seeds

I frequently plant chia in my tank, and recently I have been sprouting them in moist spagnum moss. I've had a lot of luck with it- they sprout every time for me. I let them die off and replace the moss when necessary [emoji3]

Re: Chia in moss pit question

Hm, okay. The moss looks about normal since the sprouts died, but I'll inspect further a little later [emoji847] I'll replace as necessary if I see that the moss gets funky or something [emoji1417]

Chia in moss pit question

I recently tried to sprout chia in moist spagnum moss in the tank. The sprouts grew really nicely- and one of my crabs (Kai) loves being in the pit with the sprouts. Would it be ok for the sprouts to die off in the pit and to leave it as is and sprout more seeds after? Should I replace the moss at a...

Re: Eggshells

I do raw eggshells too, I make sure to thoroughly wash it out, dry it, and then I pop it in the tank. I usually keep it in there for about a week, maybe two. Never dealt with any smells or mold

Re: Twins

I have the same situation! I gave my two crabs similar names (Kai and Tai) because they're so similar to one another.

Re: Finally redecorated the tank!

Wonderful! So, you have noticed an increase in activity? I moved my tank two days ago and had to redecorate it too, it's not often that I do this. The crabs couldn't be more active, they are always moving. I increased sub depth, and removed wood, that made them really active! Well, I actually think...
