Re: Burlap for second level.
Haha this whole conversation has made me realize I could have achieved the sMe thing much more easily with a build that sits on top of the sand. I think when I get the time I'll rip all this out and redo it. Here is a sketch of some builds you could do that would sit on the sand. I envision it being...

Re: Stored Water Longetivity?
I feel like crummy plastic jugs are not ideal for long term water storage but I certainly can't think of anything better

Re: Burlap for second level.
For my first crabitat I used suction cups and commando hooks to keep my decot up. The crabs were constantly tearing things down and I found this method to be unworkable. That's when I came up with this design, about 4 years ago, and I've stuck with it ever since. The whole thing is held in place pri...

Re: Would they disappear so quick?
I would say this is pretty normal. After what these crabs have been through, they certainly need to rest, destress, recharge, and probably molt. It may be a while before you see that one again but try not to worry about it too much

Re: Stored Water Longetivity?
This is such a good idea, I want to do something like this for salt water. I hate dragging it out and mixing it up every few weeks. I bet SW would keep better too...

Re: Krabooz 'Saltz'
We went out today with the objective of getting some more heating pads for the Krabooz thing, but came home with a 20 gal 2' tank and a pair of heating pads and thermostat, and 6" of sand substrate..... we'll keep the Krabooz thing as an emergency isolation tank, but I fear it probably isn't even u...

Re: hermit crab salt water
Just to make sure this point is clear, yes you should dechlorinate both BUT you need to use MARINE salt only. You should be able to get marine salt at any pet store. There are instructions for how to mix on the box.

Sprouting for crabs
Hi all! I want to do some kind of sprouts/foraging for my crabs. It would be great to have a permanent sprout container in the tat that the crabs can brows but I realize that may not be feasible. Anyone have any advice to share on this topic?

Re: Burlap for second level.
I use egg crate covered in burlap for my whole tank. Here is a picture. I think it's an excellent material for use in crabitats. It has several advantages. 1. Cheap. 2. Edible. 3. Looks more natural than plastic 4. Helps maintain humidity. 5. Crabs can eat it! LMK if you want more info and or pics a...

Re: Is no dye lot Acrylic yarn safe?
You could easily do this project with natural fibers like hemp, cotton, or even wool! I would avoid acrylic since the crabs will eat it for sure. I would look for the kind of hemp twine used for macrame jewelry. That stuff is very tough and probably crab safe. Please post pics when done! Sent from m...

I have no answer to your question LOL. I just noticed algae for the first time along the front of my tank this afternoon.
