Re: CT, MA, ME, NH, NY, RI, VT Adopters

ALBANY, NY Hello! I am an experienced crabber with room for about 5 crabs, preferrably purple pinchers. I have been keeping hermit crabs for close to 3 years. I currently have a 75 gallon crabitat with 2 purple pinchers and adhere to the HCA care guidelines. I am willing to drive up to 1.5 hours to ...

Algae in crabitat

Hey guys! So over the past 2 years my hermit crabs and I have unfortunately been mostly apart. I moved my crabs to Buffalo where I was starting grad school thinking I'd be living there only to find out school was going to be remote and life in a tiny apartment with 2 roommates working remotely also ...

Preferred shell treatments

Hi all! Has anyone noticed if their crabs have a preference for a certain kind of shell treatment? Do your crabs seem to prefer pearled, striped, or just polished shells? Or does it not seem to matter?

Measuring Shells

Hi guys! When you measure shell openings you do it at the widest point right? Normally horizontally across the opening? Cause I just received an order of shells from Richards and it seems like he measured the shells at the narrowest point, they are quite a bit too large.

Re: Pantry? Moths

Pantry Moths suck, I currently have a infestation of them in my house (have no idea where their coming from, they seem to pop out of no where). They might be attracted to the lights in your tank (or the heat, I'm not a entomologist so I'm just guessing). You crabs will eat them if they get the chan...

Re: Fungus Gnat Infestation

Yeah we have plants everywhere in that apartment. I'm as certain as I can be that they're fungus gnats. I found a scholarly article that looked at the use of the bacteria for controlling a pest insect in land crab burrows that found no effect on the crabs so I think ik gonna go for it. Sent from my ...

Re: Fungus Gnat Infestation

I found some online resources claiming that this bacteria called Bacillus thuringiensis var. Israelensis (BTI) kills fungus gnats. Does anyone have any idea if this might be safe for crabs? If it's a bacteria my guess is that the crabs would probably be fine but this is just a guess. Sent from my SM...

Fungus Gnat Infestation

Hi all, I moved my crabitat when I went to grad school, but we ended up being 100% online this semester so I have been living back at my house almost 5 hours away. My roommate has been taking care of my crabs for me and just told me that the crabitat is infested with fungus gnats. We had a persisten...

Re: Review My Crabitat (Updated)

I'm not 100 percent sure about netting since I've never used it. Tons of people on here have though. One thing I would try to do is try to get 100% natural netting, like all cotton or something so that they dont end up eating anything they shouldn't cause they WILL eat it I just googled it a bit and...

Re: Review My Crabitat (Updated)

This tat is so cute! The only thing I would suggest is, on the right hand side where the cholla wood is you have a big section of empty glass. If you hung some netting from suction cups there, it would look cute and more importantly give your crabs even more space that they can climb on/use. Plus as...

Re: I got started on my HC tattoo

So far I'm 8 hours in on this new school hermit crab design. The line work, shading, and background are all complete. My artist will get me in, in a few weeks to finish the coloring. This is is on the back of my right calf. The same artist did my left calf five years ago. Artist: Greg Dorman Shop: ...

Re: Moving

Love it! I love that big wood piece, is that the piece you were looking for that kind of looks like a stump? Or am I thinking of something else? Add a few small climby plants to the front for a little more greenery, or a few things up front. I actually just added some more fake plants to my tank an...

Re: Moving

The V2 looks awesome. I knpw the feeling of wanting to do better, I'm still kicking myself for not making more levels for my crabs on my background. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk Thanks Aussie! It's funny you should bring your tat up bc after I got my tat set up the other night I was telling...
