Re: Venus and Oreo size comparison
Hello :) This morning I walked past the crab tank and noticed Venus and Oreo walking along the sand together. It was quite funny to see the size difference, especially when they were standing next to each other! Also, photo is blurry as I had to zoom in from a distance, to try and take the photo wi...
Re: Curious
Someone is curious. He must have heard something. He even got up on the stool to get a better look. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180220/7074f90688cad93e52d097d054d94d28.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180220/b8f7b15db0601ff1477291ab330fd876.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180220...

Re: Tango is invading Venus' hermie hut!
Hi :) So a couple of months ago, I purchased a jumbo hermie hut for Venus, as she couldn't fit into any of the other huts that I had. She is very protective of it, and doesn't let any of the other crabs go into it except for Oreo and Pearl. The other day, I found Tango doing a sideways shuffle to t...

Re: Our first ponds.
Ah, I suppose your well water isn't chlorinated (that's a thing, right? I'm such a city dweller, I don't know the first thing about wells, lol)? If you don't have chloramines added, you won't have ammonia from broken up chloramines (it's a by-product of de-chloramine-ation, basically). You can stil...

Re: Our first ponds.
Sillysheep!!! I was just thinking about you when I saw this thread. :D I was off the grid back in Nov. when y'all were talking water changes - just wanted to offer a tidbit about ammonia & chloramines. If you use Prime, this is for you. When a dechlor gets rid of chloramines, it does so by removing...

Re: Our first ponds.
I'll be honest, for my experience, my family doesn't "crab". So they are tired of hearing my crab tales. I could probably tell them that one jumped up and gave me five and the response would be the same if I said they're hiding. Sent from my XT1030 using Tapatalk I know what you mean. My mother in ...

Re: Grapewood, and ROOTS?
By grapewood, do you literally mean like grapevine .... wood? I know that seems like a rediculas question. On an abandoned yard nextdoor, is a dead small grapevine, but close to the ground on both sides is thicker peices. So, is that considered grapewood?

Sent from my SM-G930R4 using Tapatalk How often do you change the water in the pools? Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk My goal was weekly but it's more like every 2 wks. But if the water seems to be getting low, I top it off. Ok thanks! I assume that's because you have an air bubble you can do th...

Re: Our first ponds.
Looks great! What kind of containers did you use for the pools? Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk They are paint trays for trimming. I got them at Lowe's. There is two salt and two fresh so I just pull the top one out to clean them. There is some guess stop the "ramp". It's easy for them to get in...

Would I just continue to use quick reply or what? Anyway.... still no soakers. Dorothy does go all around the edge and she thinks she wants to, just hasn't yet. I haven't seen each one drink from these, only assuming they do. We are accustomed to drinking water dishes changed out every evening. The...

Watermelon had a feast! :) When i saw him started dragging the crayfish i thought he wanted to drag it to a hidden place to eat. but turned out he just wanted to get to the meaty parts inside the shell. https:/...

Re: Our first ponds.
Sometimes when its something new crabs do take time to get use to it. (Your species of crabs, PP's also don't 'swim' as much in comparison to other species as well) Give them some time, they will appreciate it. :) Most people say that their crabs love to use wheels. If you have the funds or the wil...

Re: Correct heating method
When I setup my 2 tanks I put my heaters on the bottom to one side. My crabs are small so the substrate is around 4 to 5 inches deep. I put the small pieces that came with the heaters on the corners of the tanks and was careful not to place the plastic part of heater that attaches to to pad where a...

Re: Our first ponds.
I have also ordered one, I think they call it "flying saucer" wheel. It's flat, on a tilt though. I got it on Amazon for around $5. I've send pictures of crabs enjoying it. Have you seen those? Ours isn't here yet. I've seen those in the pet store and have been thinking about getting one, but I thi...
