Molting in a Moss Pit (With a catch)
I have a crab which has currently been in a moss pit for over a week. I know he is not destressing because I've had him for 5 years and nothing bad happened to him. I know crabs sometimes molt in moss pits but I have an issue. My moss pit is quite small. https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/prod...

Tunnel Collapse Caused by a Drop?
I recently dropped a hard cover book right next to the tank (it’s normally on the kid to prevent escapees) Could this have collapsed one of my molters? They have been molting for a month now so it would be right in the middle of their molt. I notice a little bit of the moss pit “jumped” a bit.

Re: Mites?
Thanks for responding. They are not clinging at all, they run on him as well as inside the shell. They vary in sizes and are all white
Re: Mites?
Ok :/
Mites?
I don't know if this should go in emergency or not. But I adopted a new hermit crab a couple of days ago. When I got her I didn't see any mites, and I definitely would have noticed them. Now recently after emerging from sleeping in the moss pit for a few days I notice these bugs on her. But I have s...

Re: How do you know if a shell has lacquer?
When I said “move” I meant when the crabs turn the shell around when they want to change shells. Thanks thoughGotButterflies wrote: ↑Thu Aug 13, 2020 11:44 amThat depends. They should still be smooth, but not silky smooth to our touch, liking. It shouldn't affect how they get around. They lift their shell when they walk.

Re: How do you know if a shell has lacquer?
Just an fyi, you need to boil the shells in dechlorinated water, not spring water. Yes, I mentioned that they would not be glossy after you boiled them. I said it would take the shiny off. You can put olive oil on them to make them a little glossy again, or you can buy a dremmel and polishing buffe...

Re: Is my crab dying? ):
Sometimes my crabs like to hang out of their shell and I notice it is because they seem to be cleaning themselves. As soon as they see another crab in sight, they zoom back in for defense. I've also seen a crab lunge at another that was half out of their shell cleaning.
