heat problem

I have a UTH attached to the back of my tank. I've read on here that most people say the heater must cover most of the back, but mine only covers about half, maybe a little less. I have a 20 gal long. I have it plugged into a thermostat and the temp set to 82 F. But unfortunately the temperature flu...

I am so jelly! My little 20 gal long and y'all are using step stools to get into your tanks! Hopefully someday I'll get there! :D

Re: not molting

Thanks! I don't have any buried currently, but these babies keep me guessing so i will just have to check in the AM before I start adding more. I'm also making a popsicle bridge and wrapping some vines for them to climb. I'm going to do it all at once so I don't disturb them too many times. I'll pos...

Re: not molting

Thank you sooo much! When I pick up the other ee in the morning I'll grab some sand too! :D Also, I removed the half log. Petsmart doesn't list the type of wood online and although they've spent all of their time under it, I don't want to risk anything. They still have the small fish bowl that's bur...

Re: not molting

Oh! I didn't know I needed to add sand to the ee. Thank you for letting me know!! :D So, right now I have 3 bricks of ee. I need to add at least 1 more. Should I add 1 brick of EE and 5 pounds of sand? I found some sand on Amazon it's flukers brand. It's got coconut fibers and protein mixed into the...

Re: not molting

Right now it's almost 4 inches, but I am picking up more EE as soon as petco opens to add to it. I posted some picture a while back and some folks said it wasn't quite deep enough so I'm adding more today. But there's enough for them to bury, they do often.

Re: Heater help!

Hi! Welcome to the HCA! :) As far as using a cabinet from work - is it made of real wood? If so, is the wood listed on the safe food list? Is it free from chemicals? (no stain/paint/clear coat) Lots of questions would need to be addressed before you go through all of the work. Hermits also need a h...

Re: Feeding Frequency?

I ordered some food from THCP, but i feel like it's not enough for them. I got some Spinach mix and some peanut crunchies. I have two PPs, what do yall feed? Also, if you premix your food and store it in the fridge, how long can it last? If you freeze it, do you thaw it out and heat it before feeding?

not molting

So, i got my first crab in Biloxi in August. I brought him home and read the little care sheet they gave me and thought he had everything he needed. So a month later I bought a second crab from the pet store to give him a friend. They weren't very active, but i assumed i just wasn't seeing it becaus...

Re: I now own 3 Hermies

Hi Debra! My name is Ciara. I'm from Lake Charles, La. I have 2 dogs, fish, a snake, and 2 crabs. My boyfriend has recently tried getting into cherry red shrimp tanks, but he's having trouble getting the water just right. I'm steadily adding to my 20 gal long tank for my crabs. They're both PPs, ver...

Re: Baby food

I bought baby food to feed mine while i waited for my THCP haul to come in. I put 3 types in the bowl, but it seemed like they barely touched it. Then the last day i mixed a little banana into it and i saw them on it! But i didn't' think about freezing it so i had to throw mine out :(

Re: Heater help!

I never liked adhesive backed heating pads, they don’t heat well. I recommend Ultratherms :) You can get those from Amazon, BeanFarm, or directly from the Reptile Basics website. how do you attach to the side of the tank? electrical tape? Yes, you can use that. I use duct tape, Reflectix, painter t...

Same here. I immediately thought this was so cute and laughed, but i totally see your struggle. You're a great crab momma though! I'm sure they really do appreciate the nice fancy shels :D :D
