Re: Maple Bark From Dollar Store
Those are made for crafts, so I wouldn’t use them. They are likely treated to keep them from rotting If you’re learning to ID trees in the winter one of my favorite guides is Winter Tree Finder, available publicly at http://www.publiccollectors.org/PDFs%20of%20Books%202013/Winter_Tree_Finder.pdf Sen...

Re: Rabbits
I’ve some experience with rabbits as pets but not as livestock. All rabbits do best with ample access to forage, either fresh grass or hay, alongside their usual commercial feed. Technically I think you can get them to slaughtering stage faster on a high-calorie pellet alone (I’m no expert so maybe ...

Re: New crab owner with 5 Purple Pinchers!
So... One of my crabs (Crystal) died. I have 4 crabs left. I have 2 crabs in each of the 10 gallon tanks. Eyeballs and Ocean are in one, and Moss and Teddy are in the other. In each tank, one crab is underground and one is above ground. Do the crabs scare each other, so they take turns above ground...

Re: Hermit Crab Sand
Aquarium sand is often more of a fine gravel than a sand, which is why it’s not normally used outside of fish enclosures. It won’t hold tunnels well I do not recommend using AI for research, it tends to spout whatever it finds online without the ability to judge if it’s helpful or relevant Sent from...

Re: Playing by Shell Swapping?
That’s normal behavior. Sounds like she can’t decide which shell she likes best so she’s trying on all of them

Re: 2 Jumbo crabs - Tank size and Substrate question?
I would just add as much as you’re comfortable with. Since there are only two crabs they should have enough space that they won’t go after each other. The fact that they haven’t already probably proves my point Having a diet that allows them access to plenty of protein so they don’t feel the need to...

Re: Limp antennae / broken antennae
Aggressive behavior is possible. Does the antenna still appear limp? On the bright side, it’s not life threatening. I would monitor but probably wouldn’t intervene unless you witness an attack. If the antenna gets dropped it will probably start to grow back but otherwise I’m not sure Sent from my iP...

Re: Failing molt ?
Can you still see the crab in the corner? Has it moved at all? Two and a half months is a long time for molting, so they’re either just enjoying the solitude or deceased at this point In this case you can probably justify digging to satisfy your curiosity, though at this point I doubt there’s much y...

Re: Coenobita sp.
Coenobita is the name of the genus. That just means it hasn’t been identified to species. If you saw that in a store it probably means you get whatever they have on hand

Strawberry hermit crabs are pretty but also tend to not do well in captivity, you might be thinking of those

Re: Shell less Crab!
If she’s underground it’s best to let her do her thing, especially if there are other crabs down there too. Maybe she has a shell you didn’t account for?
