I have done this and it was really cool while it lasted. It is pretty short lived but they grow tall fast!

Brand for small amount of sand?
I’ve been using moist eco earth without playsand for years, but my tank just developed our first ever algae bloom so I thought I’d try sand and eco earth mix since I need to replace all the substrate etc. I read the sticky and see Quikrete and Sakrete play sand are recommended, but everything I see ...

Java moss
Hello, I’ve been researching Java moss and it looks like it’s ok for hermit crabs, but I haven’t seen anyone talk about a grid like the attached photo. I found this at Walmart, would it be ok to use in my crabs tank? I’m not sure if about the metal mesh backing... or if it would even survive? It’s m...

Re: Why Chirping so much?
Haha thanks for the laugh [emoji23] I went over all the parameters before posting and all the conditions look good. Maybe a bit scarce on climbing because I had to make room for the wheel. He walks on it for hours and seems to love it. The wheel isn’t new though, he had it for a couple months at lea...

Why Chirping so much?
We’ve had King Crab for several years and I’ve probably heard him chirp 3 times before. He’s been up from molting for about 1.5 weeks and he’s been chirping a ton! At least 10 times over the last week. Do crabs really only chirp when upset? Background: He had 2 small crab tank mates but they both go...

Re: Recommend things to me
I’ve been researching toppers too, but don’t understand he works. How is access gained to feed/tidy up with a glass topper. Eg would it be possible to get a 20 gallon tall and modify that as a topper for my 10 gallon? I see a Zilla vertical tropical terrarium that’s 12” L x 12” W x 18 H. My current ...

Re: Recommend things to me
I was hoping for a 20-40 gallon tank, tall, that’s fit on a 24”x11.75” cabinet that had a swing door so accessible from the front. Quite a tall order I know. I can get a bigger cabinet, but it can’t be much bigger as this fits in a nook between a window and a column. It’s the only area in my place t...

Re: Recommend things to me
Thank you for letting me know I didn’t realize silicone would have to air out for a few days, I thought just one day! I would do the silicone before adding the substrate & decor & crabs to the tank, but it’s good to know it’d need to air out for that long. I’m having trouble finding a tall tank that...

Re: Recommend things to me
Wow I never thought of that I might need to try silicone in the new setup. I had a large corner caddy with 4 big suction cups and it’s help up great for I think 6 months but it’s just started slipping downward so I had to remove it. You can see a bit of it in this photo where my guy tried to escape ...

Re: Recommend things to me
These are all great suggestions thank you!! Plexiglass & sealing the edges with tape for a Exxo Terra tank (that is the kind I meant) is an interesting idea, I might try that. How often do you have to replace the tape? I wonder if sone type of waterproof tape would work and be safe enough. I love th...

Two crabs, they’re small-medium. I’m printing out the template to measure them tomorrow better.

Recommend things to me
Hi! I want to get a bigger tank but am having trouble. It needs to fit on a 24” L x 11.75” D cabinet, so I want to go tall but I need to be able to get inside easily for changing food/water. I like the reptile tanks with doors on front, but they aren’t deep enough for 6”+ of substrate and reviews sa...
