Re: Crab can’t find comfy shell

It’s not uncommon for a hermit crab to continuously want to switch shells, mine do it all the time. If you’ve offered many styles and types of shells, then I wouldn’t worry, he’ll eventually settle. Also, the molt sac doesn’t always mean he’s about to molt, they can have those before or after molts...

Re: Crab can’t find comfy shell

Hmmm, I don’t really clean out the shells. I do dunno out debris if I see if in the shells every once an a while. That’s a good point. How should I clean them out? Just rinse with dechlorinated water or do you mean boil them?

Re: Crab can’t find comfy shell

My largest hermit crab keeps changing shells and then changing back the same night. He’s been doing this for months, I keep buying different shells but he doesn’t seem to like any well enough to switch into. I have 3 hermit crabs in the tank, large, medium, & small. There’s 13 shells of various siz...

Re: Just Brought home Molting crab and he turned blue?

Thank you!! I will switch over to EcoEarth and s different sand. When would be ok to shift it in the tank? The new hermie has been very active the past few days - even during the daytime! His color is much better. I haven’t seen him eat, or noticed anything missing from the food dish, but I’m assumi...

Just Brought home Molting crab and he turned blue?

Hello [emoji3] Welcome to the HCA! [emoji3] I noticed your substrate looks like it is wood. Do you have playsand and or eco earth? That is what we recommend here at the HCA. We recommend a minimum depth of 6" or three times the height of your largest crab. You would also mix the substrate with dech...

Just Brought home Molting crab and he turned blue?

Just chiming in that pellet food really isn’t the best for them—most brands have filler and other junk in them that they don’t need and can ultimately be quite unhealthy for them. I would also cover him with a hut of some sort, or anything else you can do to make it dark. It will simulate the condi...

Just Brought home Molting crab and he turned blue?

Did you get his shed skin? If not, he needs a replacement source of calcium and minerals or he may not harden properly. Eggshells will go a long way to help him, as will dried shrimp or plankton (fish food aisle!). The most complete thing that can be offered would be other crab exo like dungeness, ...

Re: Just Brought home Molting crab and he turned blue?

I didn’t see any shedding in the store tank. Im not sure if he ate it or others did.

Right now he has water, hermit crab pellet & shrimp Medeley, and calcium supplement. I’ll add honey too I need to get some from the store in the morning (no grocers open now).

Re: Just Brought home Molting crab and he turned blue?

Use Tapatalk, it’s much easier to post a photo from there :) I wouldn’t do anything physical with him, don’t dig a burrow either. You can suffocate a crab by covering it, because they make a special burrow that humans cannot replicate. Testing post using Tapatalk. Can you see the photo? https://upl...

Re: Just Brought home Molting crab and he turned blue?

Phew! I was worried I did more harm than good. I wan to post you a photo but can’t figute out how. I’m on an iPhone. Should I clean him off (he has bits of dry / coconut fiber on him) or dig a burrow for him? I’m trying to just leave him be. Use Tapatalk, it’s much easier to post a photo from there...
