Re: Hole in Shell

I already took it out, originally to boil because we hadn’t done that for a while, and when I was doing a quick pre-rinse, I noticed the hole, and since it was small, I thought it might not affect Slither. Thanks for your advice! But what should I do with the shell now that it is no longer good for ...

Hole in Shell

Our medium hermie, Slither has a shell with a hole in the back of it. It is a pretty small whole, only about 1/4 inch wide. How urgent is it that we get it replaced? Can we continue to provide it to the hermie temporarily, or do we keep it out of the tank so Slither has to use his other shell? Would...

Re: My crab is not moving in his shell.

There is almost nothing a vet can do for a hermit crab and most of them aren't even trained or have any actual knowledge of how to care for ceonobita species. Hi I am new to this forum. I bought 2 hermit crabs from Ocean City ( not the best place). I am concerned about my one crab My crab had not m...

Re: Naked crab

Hi, Maybe you know his already and uncurling ab was what seemed best at the time, but touching a hermit crab’s body will be excruciating for the hermie no matter how gentle you are. Maybe your hermie’s shell had something inside, because hermit crabs will leave shells if they become uncomfortable a...

Re: Organizing foods?

I have a little baggy of hermit crab food and my uncle who has many pets gave me a bowl of fish flakes when I got my gold fish, I keep them right by the pets they are for. When feeding my hermies, I change the food base each week. I throw out anything they didn’t eat, rinse the bowl, and fill it 3/...

Re: My crab is not moving in his shell.

Hi I am new to this forum. I bought 2 hermit crabs from Ocean City ( not the best place). I am concerned about my one crab My crab had not moved for days from inside the wood piece that we put in his cage. He is in his shell. Everything I see about molting talks about a crab outside of his shell. H...

Re: Can all size crabs go in the same tank?

These are not HCA tank size guidelines. I have two main tanks now, a 65 and a 150. Right now I have my jumbo guys in the 150 and my five smalls in the 65. I adopted three newbies this weekend (2 med and one borderline large) and am trying to decide what size/kind of crabs would cohabitate best toge...

Re: Chirping at my camera flash

HUH?!!! This doesn't make ANY sense!! First you say to leave them alone, then you say to pay extra attention to them. Also, chirping can annoyance and or fear. I’m really sorry for the confusion. I just meant to leave them alone as in minimize contact with them, aside from proper care routines such...

Re: Chirping at my camera flash

I think it would just be best to leave your hermies alone without using any bright artificial light nearby for a little bit to let them calm down. According to my own experiences with my hermies, their memory of pain/stress/fear can last for about a week, so maybe pay a little extra attention on the...

Re: Smart Crabs

Yes, they seem to have a small memory. Something that I actually fing really interesting is that hermit crabs actually have a pretty good memory that seems to be able to last for at least about a week, as far as pain goes at least :( Here is a link to an article about it https://www.sciencedaily.co...

Re: New crabs aren’t eating

We bought two PPs from PetSmart last weekend and they don’t seem to have eaten anything all week. We’ve tried several types of greens, store bought pellets, blueberries, grapes, apples, peanut butter, sesame oil, chia sprouts, peas and macaroni. Every morning nothing looks like it’s been touched. T...

How does everyone organize their dry/dehydrated/powdered foods? I have a little baggy of hermit crab food and my uncle who has many pets gave me a bowl of fish flakes when I got my gold fish, I keep them right by the pets they are for. Re: Naked crab

Update: I've rinsed her/him and shell with fresh crabitat water, gently uncurled ab and attempted to reintroduce to shell but crab was too upset and squirmed away. Now ab is partially in a larger shell, with three more available, including old shell. Will fill out form later. Hi, Maybe you know his...

Re: She'll problem

I have a crab who is in a novelty shell that looks like a football helmet. This is my first pair of crabs, and I'm still learning. I know now it's not good for him, 1 because it has hot glue all over the bottom, and 2 because there is a gap above the shell and the football helmet that collects debr...
