Re: The Best Number of Hermit Crabs to Have?
Wow, thanks for sharing that. Lots to let sink in after reading....a couple times! Has me questioning the whole HC industry. No matter how hard humans try, nothing is like nature for these poor little herrmies. Since the industry does exist and now I've fallen into it, I feel sorry for them. I appre...

Re: Top for a 40g Breeder?
Thank you. That's what I just did with my 75 gallon not knowing anything different. I think the pet industry needs to tap into the HC business instead of all these modified things.

Hamster wheel, yes or no?
I have a 75g set up I've done as natural as possible, live plants lots of wood, moss. Should I brake the natural habitat and get a hamster wheel? Do the little guys really like it? Thanks!

Top for a 40g Breeder?
Hello, I am currently working on a 40g breeder tank. I have a UVB hood light I'm going to place on top. Any ideas for Ideal set up? Show me pictures if you have some please!

The Best Number of Hermit Crabs to Have?
I understand hermit crabs are social and need buddies, so I wonder what seems to be a good number of herrmies in captivity. After reading up on Jon and Kate, 2 crabs make me wonder if that was helpful for their longevity. Thoughts on number of HC?

Re: Why have a UVB light if hermit crabs hide all day?
Thank you. The problem is I made a big 3d backdrop with Good Stuff and styrofoam, it is beautiful with lots of hides and climbing space. Not knowing much about herrmies, and not considering UTH I only have one side to put it on. So I have one UTH and 2 moonbulbs going. I shot myself in the foot heat...

Re: Why have a UVB light if hermit crabs hide all day?
Thank you for all your help. When you indicate the temperature, where in the tank do you read the temp? At substitute level the temperature is about 75, but at the top of the tank it reads about 82. So should I have the lower level in the 80s?

Re: Why have a UVB light if hermit crabs hide all day?
Yes they are new. The temperature is between 72-80, and the humidity is about 70-80 at substrate level. I made a 3d background for a 75 gallon tank before I knew anything about can crabs. With that said my form of heating is one small space for the UTH and 2 moonglow 60w . I have moss and a bubbler....

Why have a UVB light if hermit crabs hide all day?
I'm new at this and have so many questions, and love to hear from people who know what they are doing! I bought a UVB light and am wondering how it would be helpful to herrmies if they just hide all day? I never see the out in the day, and of course I turn the UVB light off at night. My question is,...

Very much a animal of guessing and observing, and not meddling. Thanks!

Re: Can I add more substrate on top of crabs if they where buried in the existing substrate?
Thank you! In such a big tank with so many hides I'm not sure where they are, but have not seen them for over a week. If they are dead in the substrate how would I know? One is tiny, and the other like the size of a nickel.
