Re: The Shell Removal Experiment

Oh Lord I'm scared! Give me some time to mull this over, I have 9 crabs who I can no longer keep track of. I don't know who's who anymore besides the few who have really striking colors. I am at least very interested in this experiment and I believe that it is beneficial! Sent from my cp3705AS using...

Re: New hermit crab owner

You can give them raw meat? I have been so worried about feeding them meat after i cooked it. Yupp I think they like it more raw anyway. That's how they would naturally find it in the wild ya know? Sometimes I'll throw in some raw chicken fat and they go straight for that when the lights go off! No...

Re: New hermit crab owner

Yeah any area that's not seasoned is safe, cooked or raw. And yes raw eggshell is safe as well, I think the crabs even like it more because it has raw egg on it too lol You can keep the shells for as long as you want. Crabs are scavengers so rotten food items won't hurt them.....just stink up your h...

Re: New hermit crab owner

If you're struggling to find a calcium source for them eggshells are pretty easy. I keep a mason jar in my fridge where I put all my eggshells on mornings when I eat breakfast. They get smelly quick but the crabs don't mind [emoji4] Protein is another food item that needs to be readily available. Pe...

Re: Something Intresting

I know not all crabs need to always change there shell, the fact thet havent could very well be they are comfrotable or there is surplus so they do not worry about it. It is something intresting to think on. Though i do agree a singleton would be the best to try it with, a small colony is as well. ...

Re: Dead crab?

He's probably fine, in case he's molting I would say stop checking for floods. 1 since you did already and haven't fount anything worrying and 2 in case he is molting, you don't want to collapse a tunnel. I wouldn't put too much stock in your smeller since you're sick. It's probably not working righ...

Re: Building a multiple tank stand soon, but I have weight questions

A quick Google search has an empty 55 gallon weighing 78 lbs. We have around six 50 lb bags of playsand. 300 lbs. That brings the estimate to 378 lbs. Add in water, crabs, lids and whatever else. You are looking pretty close to 400 lbs probably a little more. I have a 55, with the same amount of sa...

Re: Pleasr help with my hermie situation

Yeah definitely add moss. I would say don't cover the little hole you made with your finger, if he just dug down he will be able to correct that opening. Don't JUST add moss, keep it in some sort or container like a Tupperware bowl turned on it's side. Really any crab safe hidey where they can't bur...

Huh. I love rice cakes but....with lots of salt [emoji1]. If you're confident there's none, I would say it's safe.

Re: Pleasr help with my hermie situation

What makes you think he's molting? Crabs like to dog for fun or just to "get away" if their stressed, which may be the case since you were changing up their little home.
