My Beau
The last pic of I have of my oldest crab Beau was taken in 2020. So I finally got another snap of him last Aug 2023 having some nom noms. It's not a great pic, because the glass is dirty and it's hard to see (I never clean the glass anymore lol!). He's about the size of 2 golf balls. He's my last st...

Re: Help me please
I hear the "clink clink" of crab shells against glass most every night. They are either falling from the tops of the tank or shoving extra shells around and hitting the glass. So far everyone has been ok lol. They are tough little critters. Sometimes they are so loud they scare my dog that likes to ...

Re: NAKED HERMIT CRAB, NEEDS HELP ASAP!!
I’m not sure how to reply on here but here is my response to your suggestions (thank you so much) CL77-You're very welcome. My sand is special sand for hermit crabs. CL77-The sand is most likely calcium sand, which isn't good for hermits. It can harden when it becomes wet. I know this first hand. I...

Re: Less Active
Never rebury a crab. You cannot recreate the tunnels and holes with air pockets like they can. I would keep handling to a minimum to keep them from stressing. Once you fix the sand, just pop them back in on top and let them do their thing.

Re: Less Active
That's good it's wrapped up. If the crab is tucked tightly in its shell, its alive. If it is limp and falls out of its shell it has passed.

Re: Less Active
Thank you is there anything else I should be doing to keep the sand from drying up again my humidity is still at 80 as well as the temperature? Yw. If your lid is mesh, do you have it completely wrapped in plastic wrap? That will trap all of the moisture inside and keep the sand wet. Sent from my M...

Re: Less Active
It seems as though the same is dry all the way to the bottom which is why I’m nervous the smaller one can’t climb up should I still just wait and how do I fix the substrate? If all of the substrate is dry, then I would remove the crabs so you can fix it. They won't be able to properly dig/tunnel if...

Re: Less Active
So the humid has been over 80 and I think they are both molting but I can’t tell. The smaller one of the two I have no idea where is at like no hole or anything should I look in the tank for it? The second one I thought was molting it started four days ago and then came up for food and water then b...

Re: Help, molt or death?
I Just found why he probably went back under, I looked at the humidity gauge and saw that it was at 49 and the heating pad has been plugged out, so I’m pretty sure he went under because it was too dry for him but the sand It’s also very dry which worries me that he might’ve got smother in the sand ...

Re: Less Active
No they have not molted yet and heat is around 80-82 and the humidity is around 40-50. I just cleaned their entire tank like took everything out including the crabs and after a couple minutes on a towel while I cleaned the tank next to them they started to get more active than inside the tank. Cons...

Re: I need to get humidity levels under control ASAP
They do. They get oxygen when you are lifting the lid to do tank maintenance every few days.Kbeachy wrote:Don’t they need oxygen to breathe?
