Picky crabs??
So I've had my 2 crabbies for just over a month now, and the only thing they will really eat is dried shrimp and coconut lol. I try to give them a wide variety of foods, but the only things they seem to like is coconut and dried shrimp. I've given them apples, carrots, grapes, blueberries, spinach, ...

Re: How do you know if a shell has lacquer?
After reaching out to the seller, they gave me a refund. He didn't really say much about whether the shells were supposed to have a lacquer or not, and why mine did. Guess I'll have to keep looking for some good shells. :/

Re: How do you know if a shell has lacquer?
Funny that I found this; I ordered some from the same seller on Etsy; the shells got here last week and the shells have a very obvious clear lacquer on them. The item description only says that they are “polished,” so I have reached out to the seller to see what they can do about it, if they can.

Should I replace my substrate?
Hi everyone! I have not had hermies in my crabitat for about 6 months now, and am getting ready to adopt some new little buddies. My crabitat has just been sitting in my room unused for that time, and I am wondering if I should worry about replacing it before I get my new crabs, or if it's ok as it ...

Re: Hermies in the dorms??
The conditions in my tank are perfect at this point. They died because I didn't have the conditions right and caught on to it and fixed it too late. See my previous posts if you have questions. But my tank is essentially hermie paradise now, I just don't have any hermies to live in it. Part of me wa...

Hermies in the dorms??
So I recently had my 2 hermies pass away, and I was thinking about getting some more. My problem is that I'll be transferring to University in a couple months. I have the tank and everything for crabs, but I don't know if I should get new crabs or not. Are they hard to keep in a dorm? I did check wi...

Re: Inactive crabs
Thank you everyone for your kind words. I have decided that I do want to try again sometime, but I'm not quite ready. One last question here, though. I have cleaned up the crabitat (washed dishes, boiled shells, etc.) and I also removed the sand that the crabs were on when they passed. I did go ahea...

Re: Inactive crabs
Unfortunately, both Sherlock and Watson have passed away. Sherlock on Tuesday/Wednesday I believe, and Watson Thursday/Friday. I thought that I might have been early enough to save Watson, but I was too late. The extra heater did fix the temp problem though. But now I have no crabs to enjoy a now vi...

Re: Inactive crabs
Update: Good news and bad news. Good news first. Watson has moved (just a few inches, but I am so happy). I think this is because the temperature finally got up to 75* early this evening. He hasn't really done much, but he seems to be doing fine! Bad news...I think that Sherlock has passed. I've now...

Thank you! Just ordered another UTH too (thank goodness for prime same-shipping--it will be here later today!) The blanket is a good idea too!

Re: Inactive crabs
Alrighty...just wanted to post a quick update. I added the extra substrate, so now it measures 6" all over. I got an digital thermometer/hygrometer (the Accurite one as recommended). I still need to calibrate it, but it seems pretty accurate (I had it sitting outside of the crabitat for a few hours ...

Re: Inactive crabs
Substrate-good to know, I will plan to fix that. Thermometer-Mine is analog, so I guess I should replace that. Do you have any recommendations? I've looked on Amazon, but the reviews are inconsistent. Heat source-yikes, good to know. It's "Fluker's Premium Heat Mat." It didn't come with anything to ...

Inactive crabs
I've had Holmes and Watson since August 2nd. They've been doing really well it seems like. Watson started molting the day after I got him, and stayed down for about a month. Holmes went down about a month ago and came back up last week. Watson has always been my active one, keeping me up all night w...

Crab molting only halfway buried
I have 2 crabs, I've had them for about 6 weeks. One of them started molting the day after I got them, and came up just a couple weeks ago (~month long molt). He seems to be doing really well, and is active, loves to climb, and has a good appetite. My other crab just went down to molt about a week o...

Crab can't get down after climbing on ceiling
So my crab (I've had him and his buddy for about 6 weeks now) LOVES to climb which is super cool to watch, but three times now, I believe, I wake up in the middle of the night to frantic "tapping" of my crabs legs/claws on the glass lid of my tank. Somehow (I have no idea how) he gets up there, and ...
