Measuring Shells
Rachel, I have had the same problem with some eBay shells. Really. There have been many that are too small for me to use; I am wondering if the sellers are measuring the entire shell width instead of just the opening. I only measure the actual width of the opening; that isn't working out so good for...

Play Sand Opinion...
I have used playsand for over 18 months with no problem. I keep the bags in our foyer to keep them warm for the hermies. They seem to have a good time with it. I tried EE, but they wouldn't dig in it. So I quickly went back to playsand. You can't go wrong buying 50 lbs. for $2.99 (our winter price).

Poor Molt Recovery
My "bully" PP, Snowman, molted in November and she just molted again toward the end of January. Now I feel really bad for her. She is only medium-sized and should be ready (by the standards of my other hermies) to return to the main tank, but she is exhausted and just lays around. I've caught her ea...

PETA's Stance on Hermit Crabs as Pets
I'm sorry, that video was so cheesy it was hysterical. If my kids saw that they would be laughing (I am laughing right now as I type). I actually feel a little sorry for Herman...I think alot of what PETA says is so out of the mainstream that many people won't take it seriously. The problem is that ...

Aluminum Hydroxide in Foods is Unsafe For Crabs?
Ya know, I think I remember reading that about the calcium now. Beats me why I threw out the fish flakes, though. Although if there was something about not serving it at the same time with treats, maybe that was the reason. I remember some things and not others LOL. Do you think it is OK to keep ser...

Aluminum Hydroxide in Foods is Unsafe For Crabs?
I know there was a discussion on the "old" LHC against offering feeding products that are made with aluminum hydroxide. I just realized that the algae tablets that I have been giving the crabs for some time now also contain this ingredient. I had already thrown out the fish food made with aluminum h...

My 3 Clawed Hermie Dewey died...
Sandra -- I am so sorry about Dewey! You were so excited about his new molt, too! I felt so awful when I saw the title of this thread. Dewey was such a special little hermie. *hugs*

Salt Water Usage For PPs (C. Clypeatus)
I have one PP that really laps up the salt water; I regularly see her at the dish. The other 10 use it in varying degrees.I know some people have also offered the salt mix occasionally in a dish without water, and that would work OK as long as the crabs have a large enough dish of fresh water to bal...
