Some Isopod questions

Post by Just Jay » Fri Dec 30, 2016 12:26 am

So i think the next step for my hermits tank will be adding some isopods.

if anyone has any links on ispods or their care id be very appreciative.

my main questions:

Are any types better than the others?
if so why or why not?

Care? ( i know its very close to hermits but is there anything else they need? or maybe any foods that are hermit safe but not isopod safe? )

where would any of you recommend buying the isopods as i have no where to collect them here.

how many would you feel correct for a 20g long tank with four hermits

again i am open to any and all advice! thank you guys so much!!

There is a link on here under forums. I bought my isopods from isopod connection ~ Stacy is great there! Www.isopodconnection.com I have just the normal shiny ones for my 100 gallon. I just ordered dalmations and powdered blues. The zebras are really popular here.

I got the dwarf white ones. I also only got the isopods because I set up my own habitat for them. Sadly that got invaded by ants so I just put the ones that were still alive in the crab tank and hoped for the best.

My isopod tat got invaded by food mites, I salvaged about 50, and put them into my crabitat. Was thriving at first, not sure what happened.

Mk. All good things to know! Thanks for the new link the forums have the same one you first posted. I was thinking since most people post that the tank gets some sort of insect infestation id do a sand and ee mix. Hopefully that way i can do feeding dishes changed often like the crabs

I did sand, worm castings, ee, moss and oak leaves. I did not use containers for food. I just put it on leaves, and replaced leaves as necessary.

I got the white ones because they were little and adorable. I figured it would be harder for the crabs to eat them as well because they hide so well.

I don't give mine in the crabitat water dishes...and they are thriving. When I had them in a tote I used to spray it once a day in the morning with dechlorinated water. I actually saw a bunch of them out in the day a week ago, and then I realized why. A hermit was foraging through "their" area trying to get at them!
