Sorry didn't even see this! I'm using eco earth on half tank and other calcium sand which came with tank.

But I've been searching and see playsand mix with eco 5:1 is best? That's not to much sand? I figured it would pack to much when wet. But if good I will do this instead

I made some similar to what you are talking about with rocks on them. I just used aquarium silicone to secure the stones onto containers.
