Cleaning bowls
Cleaning bowls
I have a quick question about cleaning the food and water bowls. I understand that any type of soap or chemical for cleaning is a no-no but is there anything safe to give the bowls a bit of an extra clean other than dechlorinated water? Thanks!

Re: Cleaning bowls
I either use either Dawn or a spray bottle mixed with vinegar and water. Vinegar has antimicrobial properties and can kill some bacteria and viruses. Vinegar is not as effective as bleach, but if your dishes aren't extremely dirty, I would try Dawn or vinegar and you should be good to go. Just don't mix bleach and Dawn or vinegar and Dawn. When mixed they don't clean/disinfect as well as when used separately.amhet88 wrote:I have a quick question about cleaning the food and water bowls. I agree with crabby! I read from another user, that they use a 50/50 solution of water and vinegar. Personally the type I use is dechlorinated water, and distilled white vinegar. I give it a rinse what's my solution, wash it down with more dechlorinated water, then hand wipe it or dry it.so far I don't think there are any ill-effects!
There is also a riskier 10 or 3% bleach solution, however I've heard that bleach is harmful for crabs. I use it only in cleaning absolutely necessary things, or things that need a very deep cleaning. So far I had no requirement for it so far!

I use vinegar and water if the bowls are gross, then rinse with dechlor water. I mostly use glass bowls, so a rinse is usually all that is needed.

I so like your style. Not changing the sub and just rinsing the bowls. That's what I do.curlysister wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2019 1:15 pmI use vinegar and water if the bowls are gross, then rinse with dechlor water. I mostly use glass bowls, so a rinse is usually all that is needed.

Hahaha, I am a pretty 'casual' crab owner, I don't stress about too much. LOL.

Re: Cleaning bowls
Ok it looks like the general consensus is the vinegar and water mix, so I'll try the dechlorinated water and distilled white vinegar solution. Thanks for all the info!
