We just got a new 40 gallon breeder tank (36³⁄₁₆" x 18¼" x 16¹⁵⁄₁₆") and we're trying to set it up before we move our crabs from our 10 gallon.
We got a 6"x23" UTH from reptilebasics and insulated it, but it isn't keeping the tank as hot as it needs to be. Would it be better to get a 6"x35" heater or an 11"x35" heater instead? I'm leaning towards the 11" but it would overlap our substrate by about 1.5". Is that too much or will it be okay?
Thanks!!

Re: New 40 gallon breeder - questions
That’s what I have on mine. The top of the tank frame on mine is very wide, so I slid it up under the rim and it helped raise it a little bit. If you don’t know what I mean, I can take a picture of it to show you.

Thanks! I know exactly what you mean! The trim on the tank is about 1.5" from the top. If we could slide some of it up there then it wouldn't be an issue!

If you find that it's still not enough, you could get an additional heater for a side of the tank.
