Should I replace my substrate?

Post by arosenbaum » Mon Jun 15, 2020 12:49 pm

Hi everyone! I have not had hermies in my crabitat for about 6 months now, and am getting ready to adopt some new little buddies. My crabitat has just been sitting in my room unused for that time, and I am wondering if I should worry about replacing it before I get my new crabs, or if it's ok as it is. It's about a 40% coconut fiber, 60% play sand mixture. Thank you!
RIP Holmes and Watson: in hermie heaven since 10/2019.

The substrate itself should be fine! Rewet it and mix it well ahead of time.

However, if there is any chance contamination got into the tank - cleaning supplies, aerosols, etc. It never hurts to start fresh.
