Dim Lighting
I want to get a dim night light that would be dark enough that th crabs wouldn’t mind but at the same time I would be able to watch them. What would be a good light mimicking the moonlight that does not heat and can be screwed into a dome fixture?

Goodbye my little E. See you soon.
Bye Fred. You lasted almost 4 years with me. Hope you're with my E now! See you soon Reeba as well. I can't believe I lost you only after a month.

Re: Dim Lighting
I’ve seen some using moonglo bulbs outside the tank but facing in. Those are going to produce some heat. That’s all I know of. Perhaps others here know of more options.
Edit: I bet there’s an led option with very low heat

I don't use lights, but is the information you are looking for found in the lighting guide?

Moonglo bulbs are too bright on their own. I used to use one for night viewing but it’s just a blue LED.Links wrote:I’ve seen some using moonglo bulbs outside the tank but facing in. Those are going to produce some heat. That’s all I know of. Perhaps others here know of more options.

Re: Dim Lighting
The problem I’ve had with night lights is they don’t actually mimic moonlight. They’re too bright and are just different colors (usually red or blue), which is fine for watching the crabs but not quite built for long-term lighting.
Perhaps you could try dimming one?

Re: Dim Lighting
The halogen bulbs are a little dimmer than LED, and not all are for heating as well - they will produce heat, but not enoigh to cause an issue besides localised increase by a couple of degrees. I just get the smallest bulb available, around 25 watt. On my 4ft tank, only lit up around a 1/3 of the enclosure.
