Lost all legs but little pincher!!!!

Post by erin.leaman » Fri Sep 29, 2017 3:27 pm

I was washing off the shells in their little bucket with hot water from my bathtub and there was a little gal inside one of the shells with two legs missing. I quickly snatched her out of the hot water and she drops all her legs but her little pincher. I'm hand-feeding her honey and bee pollen and she's trying to move around. Help me!!!!!!!
She's currently scarfing down bee pollen on her own, is that a good sign?

Eating is a good sign. With the lost legs, were they hollow (sounds unlikely, but good to ask?)

Moving and eating are great signs! Load her up with as much high powered food as she will eat (coconut, bee pollen, honey, insects, shrimp) which will let her store up to molt. There is no way of knowing if they will make it ubtil they do, but don't lose hope yet. I had a legless crab bounce back even though it took several months!

It seems likely that if/when she moults, it'll be a surface moult, so be ready to isolate.

Fingers crossed!

She seems to be doing alright. Daisy has buried herself under the substrate and I have her isolated. She's still under and as far as I know, alive and kicking.

She sounds great! Just make sure she does not get so stressed again. It is common for hermit crabs to lose limbs when stressed.
