Mass death - may give up on crabbing

Post by KellyCrabbieLove » Sat Aug 06, 2016 3:54 pm

I love my crabs. Love them. Today I did the first deep clean in probably 6 months or more. I lost...so many crabs. I lost Poseidon...what hurts the most is I lost Thor. I haven't counted my survivers so I don't know how many died yet since crabs like to bury empty shells. I do know that I can't handle this much loss. I am not dealing with this well at all.

I lost 11. Almost a third of my colony.

No fresh molts but one dug up is not moving much anden is in isolation. I am over the pain of keeping these animals as pets.

Thanks. I accidentaly posted this to the archives but moved it to the right area today. I lost another since the 11 and 2 more are at risk at the bare minimum. This has been awful.

I'm so sorry Kelly! I saw your other post earlier, and my heart aches for you... :( Try to keep your head up, I know It's tough, loss isn't easy. I truly hope this doesn't prevent you from keeping your current colony...you are definitely a wonderful asset to them and this community. That being said, do what's right for you. On a positive note- I'm hoping your new little does well! Lots of hugs, and good vibes your way.

Oh, Kelly! Not Thor and Poseidon! You've been such a terrific crab parent and still have crabs that need your help -- please don't give up. I know the past few days have been an enormous shock to absorb but do you have any idea what happened?

I was going to ask about that but thought that maybe you just needed to say it but weren't ready for responses.

I am so truly sorry for your losses. I know that you have always maintained a great habitat and spoiled your crabs.

This is one of the worst parts about crabbing and leads me to believe that there are unknown disease vectors at work.
