March 2018 Intakes

Post by Kaleighshermies » Mon Mar 05, 2018 6:15 pm

I am starting a new system for myself. I want to see how well this works. I lost count of how many PPs I have and I have 3 new Es that I never documented. I am going to *try* to do intakes every month and maybe I will see similarities and be able to identify and tell hermies apart. I think it will also help me know who goes down and for how long. No one really follows me on here and so it's more for myself. If you happen to stumble upon this and have a keen eye feel free to step in and give me your input every month on who you think each crab is. :) Hermit crab version of "Guess Who" lol.

As no one has names they will be numbered for now.

*******Please note! Unless you have to make it clear to which comment you are responding to please keep quoting down to a minimum!!! It makes the post very long and messy, I want to try to keep it organized. Simple comments like "wow I really like your hermit crabs" doesn't need to have a quote of a huge paragraph I wrote previously; like I said it just makes the post very long. However if you think crab #3 looks like crab #2 from the previous month and you believe they may be the same crab by all means you may quote or screen shot the two photos together for comparison. I don't think I need to worry much though I generally never have anyone respond to my "fun" posts lol. Okay rant over!********

Crab #1:
Small Ecuadorian Female
I just got her a month ago and I have to say the E’s are now my favorite. They are adorable, energetic, athletic and super entertaining to watch. The only downside to them is finding shells that they like and it is really hard to sex them. Does anyone else have a hard time?
Name suggestions welcome.

Crab #2:
Small Ecuadorian Male
Picked up from Petco a month ago. Still surprised at how outgoing these E’s are. They have no issues with coming out of their shells and very social.
Edit: Added Black gem on shell for identification.
Name suggestions welcome.

They're both so cute! For the first one, you could name her Amethyst, for the gem on her shell. :)
Loving owner of two hermit crabs and two dogs! Call me Moon, Icy, Kermit, or anything you'd like! sheldon_and_peanut (hermit crabs) and sisterchins (dogs) on Instagram.

March 2018 Intakes

Crab #4
Small Purple Pincher sex unknown
I got this crab last week. He was the last of my little sister’s and she didn’t want to get anymore and didn't want he/she to be alone. This is the shyest crab I have ever known. My sister had him for about a year and I have never seen him even move until last night. I tried to see whether it was a boy or girl and to this day has been the only crab I’ve ever had that I could not coax out of its shell enough to tell. I may never know. Time will only tell with these intakes. I found his shell empty this afternoon near my shell shop. Being that it was near the shell shop and I didn’t find anyone naked I’m assuming he/she has dug under. Very curious as to what shell he/she picked.
Name suggestions welcome.

Crab #6
Small Purple Pincher Female
Not sure how long I’ve had this little girl. I believe she may be a rescue from a year (or two) ago but I may be wrong. I have a post back of two rescues I got from a pet shop that had all dead crabs in the tank except for her and I believe a male who I also took; store practically gave them away to me.... had missing legs and were both in bad shape. As you can see she's doing good now all new legs and nice color.
Name suggestions welcome.

Crab #7
Small/Medium Purple Pincher Female
She just picked this shell out last night. I don’t know what shell she was in before and don’t know where she came from because yesterday when I took all the other photos she was not out. This is why I am making this topic. Trying to 1) find out how many hermit crabs I have and 2) see if I can identify who is who after a period of time.
Name suggestions welcome. (I kind of like the name Coconut for her, not sure why...lol)

Okay so as of March 5, 2018 I have:
3 Es: 1 Female, 1 Male, 1 Unknown
4 PPs: 2 Female, 1 Male, 1 Unknown

Andddd.... I have like another 4 missing PPs
I'll add them if they come around....

January 2017 I had 6 Purple Pinchers. Anyone want to take a look at my first thread and guess if any of those crabs match crabs # 5, 6 or 7?
http://www.hermitcrabassociation.com/ph ... 8&t=112956
Here is the post I made when I rescued two hermit crabs from a pet shop. I *think* this may be crab #6. What do you think?
http://www.hermitcrabassociation.com/ph ... 8&t=112891
So 4 of the how ever many PPs I have now (I think around 8 ) I got in 2014. Wow I have had them longer then I thought.... Kind of cool to look back and see they have in fact actually grown and in my opinion look healthier. No way I can guess who is who from this thread.
http://www.hermitcrabassociation.com/ph ... 8&t=110104

I am dropping all previous names. For now they will all have their own number. When I get identities established I will then give them names. Of course name suggestions for the future are appreciated..... I really hope I can get a few people to follow this thread. I am interested in other's thoughts and I really want hermie friends. I have been a part of this website since 2012 and never made a friend :(

Hmmm that's strange. They are still working for me but I am on my computer right now not Tapatalk. I wonder if that makes a difference? It will take longer but you can find them, they're just old posts of mine.
Link 1: Forum ---> New Crabs and New Crab Owners ----> Topic called "My colony"
Link 2: Forum ---> New Crabs and New Crab Owners ----> Topic called "New Rescues!"
Link 3: Forum ---> New Crabs and New Crab Owners ---> Topic called" Starting back up my crabbing obsession!"
Pretty sure you can type the topic names into the search bar and it should pull them up...
The posts were all of the times I found my way back to this website when I got new crabs.... I think if you click on my username you can search my past posts as well? Other then that I am sorry :(
