Is it possible to smother a crab?

Post by Maddamay32 » Mon May 27, 2019 1:27 pm

I recently wanted to add more substrate to one area of my tank that was a few inches too shallow, after I poured in the damp sand I started to worry that I may have a crab or 2 underneath. If they are under there and I collapsed their tunnel is it possible they could suffocate?

Also worried if they were in the middle of a molt (I know I have 1 or 2 molting just not sure where exactly they dug) they would be too weak to rebuild their tunnel.

Please let me know if I'm being a worrywart or if I need to help my crabs in some way!!

It is recommended to add no more than one inch of new substrate every 24 hours, and don't pack it down. So you can add, just not too much and don't press it down.
