If you fill a piece fabric with rice or hard corn (NOT popcorn) then microwave it for a few minutes (I do 3 but it depends on your microwave) it will heat up warm enough to make a makeshift heat mat that will last at least an hour. I've never used this with my crabs but it work perfectly on the snake with the vents failed. I know that you need power to use the microwave but this would work if your vents failed.

Just be sure to put the rice bag on the OUTSIDE of the tank, not inside.
