Great idea! Can’t wait to see the results of the experiment, and especially more long term/ do they improve with time or whatnot? Do they use them more with time? That kind of stuff. But I’m a geek for scientific data too, so I can’t help myself! Lol
(Oh hey motorcrab- and thanks for the response on the settling. I feel much better, I just had to be sure!) Sorry y’all, being lazy and writing all on one post.

I caught one of my purples picking at a cube! I saw another crab picking at the other cube but the angle on the cam wasn't good enough to get it. I got a video I will need to upload tomorrow. He was holding the cube similar to how they would inspect a shell. Then he reaches in and picks at the popcorn. Roll, pick, roll, pick. I guess I have my first successful experiment! As a bonus someone was swimming too!Image

Wow so they liked it. I wonder if you could make different sizes or shapes to manipulate.

Here are two videos I got of the one guy playing with the cube!

This is a wide shot of him finding the cube and playing with it.

This is a more centered shot of him.

I'm sure the possibilities are endless on how you want to make these.

Awesome- thanks for being our... guru on crafty things? Lol that’s really cool though- he seemed to be enjoying it- or at least the popcorn inside!

Aww! You’ve got swimmers too! Lol!
First one wouldn’t load, not sure if it’s just me.
Edit: The first one worked now, so cool watching him figure it out! They really are so smart! Your isopods kind of glow in the camera, they’re kind of cool to watch too! Lol!

That is really cool. Did any sand get inside as it rolled around?

I admit the bugs in the background were distracting. I kept thinking, "are those bugs in the tank?" (mine has no bugs)

Yea, it gets sand in it but I brush it off with an old toothbrush. I don't know if they enjoy picking foods out of these, but they do it.

Those are Isopods you are seeing crawling around. They are supposed to help clean up poop and foods the crabs scatter in the tank. I heard crabs will eat them too. I have yet to see any of my guys pay any attention to them.

Cool, you found this post. I was going to link to the other topic.

Yea, I just clip two zip ties and shove the popcorn in.

I put a cube of popcorn in last night and this morning it was gone.

I finally managed to get some video of one of one of my guys having fun playing with the cube and pulling the popcorn out. Sorry the video's are only a minute. I kept them short to post them on Instagram. It took Diablo about 5 minutes to find the cube with popcorn and she picked at it for about an hour. Even drug the cube into the wheel for a to go snack!
