well... I ended up with a cabinet anyway!got an email from petco today saying free shipping on any order (though I'm guessing the stand would have qualified for free shipping normally), and when I went to research if I could pay paypal, since I just got a sum of money this week, not only did they take paypal - orders over 100$ could get 10$ off!
so I bit the bullet and got the cheap cabinet. 120$+tax after my coupon, but now I don't have to worry about feeling like my tank doesn't have adequate support.

so roughly 200$ and I have a fully set up 40B! stand (120), lid (25), tank (40) - not too bad, if I don't say so myself.
now I just need a new humidity/temp gauge since my nat geo one decided to fill itself full of sand and go on the fritz.
