Yesterday I placed my first order. It was for 5 tiny E's and the total was almost $74 for the crabs and shipping and handling but I know it wasn't a waste. There being sent tuesday and will arive Wednesday. I'm definately ordering other stuff at another time.
I have ordered tons of stuff and it has all arrived promptly and in great condition! I just ordered 4 tiny crabs and some shells, spoke to Tammy on the phone and she is even going to size the shells for the crabs she is sending, and pick out ones that PP's like. Wonderful site, wonderful service!
I know from personal experience if you have an issue with an item or with your crabs and you don't have time to post it here she is usually willing to help you out. Like when Grumpy got his shell stolen Tammy helped me out a lot!!!~Inari
I have had a few great conversations with Tammy and she is very knowledgable. I have no complaints at all about her products or service. I cant wait to order more from her. I will be getting a few more friends for Tinee with my next order.
When I started crabbing in January, I got a few books on crqbs. But I found the Crabbage Patch on line and thought the articles were so well written and had such much practical information, I printed out all the pages, so I could refer to them as I needed to.I moved to Florida last year. So when I found the Crabbage Patch store was only a two hour drive, I was ecstatic. For my birthday, my husband and I went to Mt Dora for the weekend. We spent four hours at her booth, listening to what she was saying to the customers and asking her questions. We went home with to medium PPs and 2 adorable little Es. And I could tell that every crab I touched (except I don't go near jumbos) was newly molted. In September, guess where we'll be celebrating our anniversary?I praise Tammy so much I sometimes put in a disclaimer, that I get no money for my recommending her site.I've never heard a bad thing said about Tammy. And since I'm now spoiled by getting crabs from her, I just walk by the crab tank at the pet store.
Just wanted to let everyone know that I ordered a bunch of shells from the Crabbaga Patch. I have a lot of hermies, 2 strawberries & 10 purple pinchers I believe. So far almost all of the purple pinchers have left there shells and moved into the crabbage patch shells. They have a nice variety and their prices are good too. Now only if I could get my strawberries & my large purple picher to switch shells... I believe they need a bigger one.
I’m sure a number of you have heard of The Crabbage Patch, and its owner, Tammy. I am fortunate to live only 100 miles from her store, so I’m able to occasionally go there. People on other forums have asked me to speak with Tammy on certain subjects. This is what I’ve posted on a few other sites, and I’d like to share it with you. PS I have a terrible time negotiating around this site and the print is so tiny I don’t know how any one can read it.Just got back from visiting Tammy at The Crabbage Patch. For those of you who don’t know, Tammy is one of the pioneers in the care of Hermit Crabs. She’s been a crabber for over 30 years. Tammy operates her local store at Renninger's Flea Market in Mt. Dora, Florida. Tammy has an online store and a site on the web www.thecrabbagepatch.com. I came across her site when I first started crabbing. I thought the articles she wrote were much more knowledgeable and easier to understand than any of the books I had read. Even though I didn’t know Tammy, nor was I a customer, I emailed her a couple of times to ask her questions, which she was always nice enough to respond to. Fortunately for me, when I found Tammy’s store was only a two hour drive, I was thrilled. I am fortunate to be able to go there occasionally to stock up both on crabs and supplies. My husband, Fred and I were there last Sunday and spent four hours soaking up the atmosphere, picking out crabs, figuring what supplies we needed and talking crabs with Tammy and her husband Kirk. I also actually picked up a JUMBO crab and hand fed it!! Right now, Tammy is really heavy into breeding. She showed me a small KK that looked like it was one of those snowballs that you shake and then the snow flakes fall until they all reach the bottom. Except while some of Tammy’s ‘snow flakes’ did fall, others stayed where they were, moving here and there but not falling. Tammy told me to look at the little granules at the bottom of the KK. They were moving on their own!!! They were little crabs called zoeae. Tammy also showed me pictures of what, to me, looked like pale green seahorses that you could see through (sorry, but that’s the best way I can explain it). But they really were actual megalopae, which is the final larval stage before becoming little hermit crabs as we know them!!! This is so exciting! Breeding crabs that were born and grown up in optimal conditions! Who’s got PPS anymore? It still will be a while, but at this point, Tammy’s come much farther than anyone else, and there’s no stopping her! While I was there, Tammy told me how busy she’d be with breeding the crabs for the next two months. Also, it’s coming to the time of year where it’s no longer safe to ship hermit crabs. She told me a story about how she overnighted a crab from where she lives in Florida to a customer who also lived in Florida. It was in December, but overnighting from one place in Florida to another place in Florida seemed like no big deal. Until Tammy found out the crab went from Florida to Florida via Philadelphia in the middle of the winter!!! Luckily, the hermit crab was fine but to avoid situations like that from recurring she will end shipping for the winter season soon. A few people have mentioned on line that they were having trouble getting through to Tammy. Right now she’s working 7 day weeks, focusing on the breeding. She’ll do her best to get orders shipped as fast as she can. But right now it is taking her longer than normal to respond to email and she may be unable to answer general questions. In one of my posts I mentioned that I wanted to get Strawberries from Tammy but that she only had a few left and wouldn’t be shipping them. She is currently out of Strawberry crabs but has a wholesaler searching for them and a variety of other exotic species as well. For those who can’t get there in person, she should have freshly molted hermies ready to send when safe shipping season resumes in the Spring. She currently ships hermit crabs within the continental US only and merchandise within the US and Canada. Soooooo….I’m sure there are many of us waiting with bated breath. Tammy, we’re all with you and very excited. And all our crabs are keeping their claws crossed!
I've ordered twice now from the Crabbage Patch and received both quickly. My crabs really love the food too.
I got my order today and it arrived in 2 days! And it was from Florida to California! Well wrapped and i got Crabotancials samples!
I would just like to say I am very pleased with the crabbagepatch and Tammy. It is obvious to see how much work she has put into her business and how much time and effort she spends to please her customers. Highly reccomended site for excellent prices and customer service. She also gave me a free sample with my order
I love Tammy and her store. The only place I buy food for my hermies. Love the shell selection also. My crabs go nut for the crabotancials line. Only thing that I can out in and be gone the next morning.
Just received a big order of BEAUTIFUL shells and some other miscellaneous stuff. Awesome service and prices. The shells were painstakingly packed so that they wouldn't break. Thank you so much!
I love this store. I have placed 4 orders with them since I got my PP's. Everything is always great and shipping is really fast, and they always give a free sample of something I have not had before.
