why do I think I remember reading somewhere that crabs can eat milk weeds? so can they?

@Laurie, from what I've read and understand milk weed is actually toxic to humans, most birds and insects so I would think it would be harmful to hermitcrabs as well.

Hm.... I heard it was safe!? :/ And Nightshade is poisonous to us, yet crabs like it :P haha.

I wouldn't even if it was ok for them. I simply wouldn't want a plant in the house that could harm someone or a pet in the household. You might know its not ok for people but what about a child comes in and wants to test it or touches it then doesn't wash and it gets in their eyes or mouth. Just my opinion

Milk weed is toxic but Milk Thistle and more importantly the flowers are safe and very much appreciated by our hermitcrabs.FYI, I couldn't find Milk Weed listed anywhere as being safe for hermitcrabs only Milk Thistle.Hope this helps.

good to know on the milk thistle flowers. i have asked in the past but didn't get a confirmed answer. so how do we serve the flower? just torn up i would guess?

@beka, since I've never offered milk thistle flowers I don't know if there is a certain way to offer them or not.

Milkweeds are indeed toxic to a great majority of animals unless you're a caterpillar.
