Love it! I really need to update my pics. I'm also thinking of adding a hamster wheel. How does one go about modifying it for crabbies? Forgive me if that's a dumb question. I've never thought about doing this for crabs but it makes sense.

Thank you! I really need to spend some more time on my 75g. It is the newer one, so I am still purchasing things for it.

You can buy this wheel and not modify it - which is in my 75g (which is honestly not my favorite wheel): https://www.amazon.com/Kaytee-Large-Com ... fort+wheel

Or...buy this and modify it - which is the best way to go - crabs can walk wheel easier bc of leg room: https://www.amazon.com/Kaytee-Hamster-S ... nt+spinner

Here is the link for hamster wheel where mlakers told us how to make it :) http://hermitcrabassociation.com/phpBB/ ... ster+wheel

As for modifying hamster wheels: very easy!
1 - buy the wheel, zip ties and a piece of craft mesh :)
2 - use an electric drill

Read the post for the details :)

Thanks! I'll have to check it out next time I'm on the computer. Unfortunately links don't work for me using the app.

Nice stuff. I like the pools, they look like they naturally belong there. Are the hamster wheels just for climbing?

Not gonna lie - I was pretty excited when I saw the title of this post... and it didn't disappoint. :D

Your shell shop looks huge... rough estimate: how many shells do you think you have?

Pools are gorgeous, and the drapey effect of the net, plus the branches' acting as directional counterbalance make the tank look very well composed. Nice!

looks so good GB!

i went the lazy route and just used silicone instead of drilling holes or anything to attach the craft mesh.

My 100g & 75g Crabitats

Post by GotButterflies » Tue Jan 31, 2017 10:59 am

I thought you would enjoy that :) My hermits actually line up to use it! That one is my diurnal crab. I think it is that one so it doesn't have to fight for the wheel. LOL. I need to add a third wheel to that tank. The hermits are actually getting 2/3 on a wheel at a time. They all want to use them. Sometimes they wait on the rocks I got at the beach, but they tend to get impatient. It's really fun to watch. I wish I could tape at night, but the moon I have on my ceiling doesn't make enough light for my phone to tape.

As far as the shells. Hmm..I'm not good at guessing. I have a lot! I'm fortunate enough to not live far from beach shops, so I go there often. To boil all of my shells in both tanks I use a large stock pot - it's maybe 12 quarts? I don't know. It's huge. I have to do it twice to get them all. The pot is about 14" high.

Thank you for the compliments. I love my tanks. Still working on my 75, I just acquired that in December. It's always a work in progress. @LadyJinglyJones, did you like my marimo moss balls in fw? I have one large one in each. I haven't seen the hermits play with them, but PetCo had a sale on b1g1, and I got some for my Betta and BloodParrot, so I figured I would try it for the hermits. It's another snack if they locate it. :)

Love them both!

I'm picking up a tank next month that the woman says is 165 gallons, but I think is "only" 125 gallons and it's occupants. I've promised not to split up the occupants or any any more to the tank, but I'll want to decorate it my way.
