I have been a crab owner now for about 6 months and my crabitat is great.. thanks to everyones comments on here!

Anyway, most of my 6 pp's are down but one little one just came up from molting. I keep hearing that chirping is not good but she seems fine.. she is the friendliest one of mine and when i pick her up she always comes right out to say hello.. but i noticed again last night that she crawled up onto the log and what chirping, then later she was in a hidey and chirping. Has anyone else noticed chirping when not in distress? I was thinking maybe she is lonely??

One of mine chirps when he's happy - I think.
He chirps when I feed his favorite foods. Always the first to the dish and chows down like no tomorrow. He also chirped his heart out when I added a new moss pit - it's his favorite place to hang out now.

So, I think sometimes they do chirp when they're not stressed. With all their different personalities, it's not hard to imagine that some are quite the chatterboxes.

But, you still need to make sure nothing is bothering her. Are you positive there's no other crab bugging her?

The only time I ever hear chirping is when they dig and scrape the glass

I think maybe she or he is lonely. I found when all but one was molting that the left one would chirp as if he was looking to hear a chirp back. I think its a way of communicating and that doesnt always have to be bad, it could be happy, lonely or under stress.

They wont remember what you said or what you did, only how you made them feel.

Well even as i type this she is making noise.. of i THINK its her.. she just got up from hiding under a flat stone, and made a break for the hidey... and now i hear it... i went on youtube and found the sound of them chirping but honestly it does not sound like that... it might just be the sound of the ones who are burrowed down scraping the bottom of the glass tank... i cannot find that sound anywere to hear but honestly, this is what i am thinking it is.....

Does anyone else have this or have heard this sound???????

One of my crabs is the tanks "cuddler" he loves all the other crabs and snuggles with them, when they all went down to molt without him leaving him on the surface all alone he would chirp at night...I would look and he'd be just sitting there, not in distress or anything...I think maybe they are looking for their tank mates...I couldn't find any other explanation other then he misses his friends!

In my year and a half of crabbing I have only once heard chirping. It was an E who was annoyed by another crab that was walking over her. Didn't sound anything like them scraping against the glass.

My two male pp hermit crabs were having a shell fight, and one of them were chirping.
