Something unusual you may not know about me is...
I can try to find something to link you to the long story...Short form= my kids brought a female mantis home at the beginning of fall when the frost would have killed her. She made egg cases every 2 weeks until she died right before the first hatched.Since they were out of season and would have died...

Something unusual you may not know about me is...
I was a fancy rat breeder for years- blue, siamese, dumbo eared, etc... I studied the genetics and had a lot of knowledge before I started. This being said, it is very unusual to most that I have a severe reaction to mice. The ones at a petstore are cute but nothing I want to touch or take home, but ...

PetSmart DM Answer to Hermit crab care
Oh I fully agree it's bad but hoping to convince them to change is sometimes a futile effort. My local store has bad conditions too, and one of the employees had it fixed nicely and was told by the 'district' manager that it was to be changed back immediately. The other workers complained because when...

PetSmart DM Answer to Hermit crab care
Not that it matters to the crabs (it does but not in any good ways) but if you look at the company view:They are selling a product to make a profit.Customers don't buy what they can't see= no deep substrate or hiding places for the crabs because they need to be seen.Water dishes that get spilled mak...

I use a locker shelf that the kids didn't want for school.I put a bit of coconut matting from the garden center on top to cover the holes and put the pop on legs through some net for easy climbing. I secured everything with aquarium sealant and it has lasted several months without any adjustments. I...

More Views on Bathing/Not Bathing Crabs
YAY! I was doing what JMT suggests here and I have had no deaths aside from some micros that a really *ahem* stupid woman mailed loose in a box that got battered.I do not bathe any crabs with the exception of those poorly mailed micros that needed some moisture, and then it was more to put them into...

Measuring Dechlorinator Amounts
20 drops per ml from a standard pipette or dropper, so one drop per gallon would be adequate, but two drops per gallon is what I would do anyway.

Ethoxyquin and Copper sulfate
Thank you so much JMT for articulating what I have been thinking for quite awhile. You have quite a diplomatic way about you! quote:The amount that is generally used is approxamately 2 grams of copper sulfate/kilogram of pesticide 2 grams per kg is still a ratio of 1:500. And that is for a pesticide...

Why is my hood blowing bulbs?
Are you using the 'regular' shaped incandescent bulbs or the tube shaped ones?I find that the tube shaped bulbs do less overheating because the have more clearance and last longer.

Preparing for Deepclean and readying my tank for winter emergencies
Okay thanks to Norm, I am still waiting for my clean.BUT... I was thinking.Anyone with a room humidifier might want to consider putting it near the crab tank if you can. My fogger started as a room humidifier and then was placed on top, because the mist was falling down anyway... then I modified it ...
