Re: Woohooo!! Two females with eggs!! Update P.6! BABIES!!

It's crazy that it has only been two weeks. The amount of time you have invested in this, and the excitement I think all of us feel for their futures makes it seem like this must have been going on for much longer. Congratulations on stage 4! Can't wait to see more adorable pictures :) Also, I have ...

Re: Woohooo!! Two females with eggs!! Update P.6! BABIES!!

Reading that post just made me feel so much better, wodesorel! I've been fighting my dogs' and cats' fleas for what feels like forever, using every flea killer I can find! I'm so glad to know your vet told you this is a widespread problem - I was really starting to think I was doing something wrong.

Re: Woohooo!! Two females with eggs!! Update P.6! BABIES!!

Happy one week (and one day!) birthday, little ones :D Also, I totally agree with this: it's funny how the crabs seem to steal the hearts of those around them :) As I've said before on different topics, I live at school during the week while my parents take care of my hermit crabs, and on weekends I...

Re: And... he opened the tank??

I keep my hermit crab tank at home while I live at school (only 15 minutes away) and I got a frantic call from my Mom this morning that ony of my crabs was walking around on top of the tank. She wasn't sure what to do, and it was my biggest crab (slightly smaller than the palm of my hand) so I ended...

Re: Will my piggy crab prevent others from eating?

Rather than upping the portions, can you just divide the food into two dishes? That way, B can sit in the food like he wants, and the smaller ones can eat in peace.
I've experienced this same sort of pecking order with my crabs, but not to the point where some of them aren't able to eat.

Re: Woohooo!! Two females with eggs!! Update P.6! BABIES!!

Gosh, this is just amazing. I find myself checking this forum four or five times a day to see if there is any new baby news. Thank you so much for constantly keeping us all updated. What an amazing experience we're all getting to witness! And oh my god they are the cutest things ever. I don't think ...

Re: Never seen this before.

I've never seen that specifically, but I have seen other friendly behavior like that. Two of my crabs were eating, when I walked by the tank. One of them could care less about my presence, while the other one immediately closed up into his shell. After about 30 seconds of the not scared one continui...

Re: How to safely move a few blocks away with crabs dug down

I have a 15 gallon tank that I occasionally have to move from my apartment back to my parents house (and vice versa) about three times a year. I have a gigantic moving box that the 15 gallon fits in, and the crabs get transported in this way so that the heat will be better maintained and they will h...

Re: Jumbo molted since December

That's so exciting! Molts always make me a bit nervous - I'm so glad your crabbie is doing great! I'm pretty sure the only time I wasn't stressed about a crab molt was when one of mine left me a window for the entire molt! Six weeks of getting to see the whole process. Such a privilege :)

Re: Moss pit molt? with pic

I would wait until he has returned to normal color. He shouldn't be acting normal if he just molted, as he'll still be soft and want to rest, but if he is then you could probably put him back in the main tank more quickly.

Re: Moss pit molt? with pic

Does that first picture show a picture of his shell, or a picture of his naked abdomen? If it is the abdomen, then I believe the crab is naked. I'm pretty sure they only shed their exo from their front half (the part visible from outside the shell).

Re: Molting Colors

I don't know much about straws, but are you only feeding them carrots and plankton or are you just making that their "staple diet" and feeding them other things everyday? If not, their colors might improve with a more varied diet. If you are feeding them a lot of different stuff, maybe he just came ...

Re: I made a terrible mistake

I'm so sorry that happened, but I am very hopeful and excited to see you update this with the happy news that he survived and molted successfully. Everyone makes mistakes, and all you can do is learn from it and move on. I mean, I had crabs for the first time when I was a little kid and looking back...
